Connectivity should not be a mandatory factor for use of the program. Call me skeptical but one SHOULD be able to complete the tax preparation task 100% offline, i.e., sand-box, VM, air-gap. App updates can be downloaded and installed prior to launching TT. Ideally, the program should not have any NEED to connect to anything while running. Yes, data importing is a convenience feature but is not required to complete the task. Frankly, I find it suspicious that the program fails in the event it cannot 'phone home' in the middle of preparing someone's private financial history. What is the product being sold here? As to the snag issue raised in this posting I found it useful to switch to Form mode to fill in the necessary data for the section being worked on and then switching back to Guided mode. YMMV.

Can you answer these question for me so we can troubleshoot this?    Were you prompted to log in again in the browser during the second import? Can you try closing the browser completely before attempting the second import? Alternatively, can you open the same link in an incognito/private window? This should require a fresh Intuit login before proceeding to the bank login.

Note also, that the answer to the question about did this Entire Distribution go towards the RMD is not right. The distribution from this account covered more than the ENTIRE RMD from all accounts but the distribution was larger than the TOTAL RMD from all accounts. Some of the distribution was excess cash, some went to a rollover to a ROTH. Of course, some went to a QCD but that counts toward the RMD.  I do not get an option to enter RMDs for accounts where I had no distribution.
The Q4 estimated tax payment covers income received from September 1 through December 31.

Even if, she cannot claim you as a dependent, you may not be able to claim the credit.  To get the refundable credit, more that half you support must come from "earned income" (working).  Repeated from above: There's a new urban myth among college students that says they can get a $1000 from the government just for filing a tax form. For most of them, they simply aren't eligible. A full time unmarried student, under age 24, even if you don't qualify as a dependent, is only eligible for the refundable portion of the American Opportunity Credit if he supports himself by working. You cannot be supporting yourself on parental support, 529 plans or student loans & grants. It is usually best if the parent claims that credit.  You cannot claim the (up to) $1000 refundable credit if you are, or can be, claimed as a dependent by someone else.   Reference: Line 7 instructions for form 8863. https://www.irs.gov/instructions/i8863#en_US_2024_publink53002gd0e674   If the student actually has a tax liability, there is a provision to allow him to claim a non-refundable tuition credit. But then the parent must forgo claiming the student as a dependent, and the $500 other dependent credit.  The student must still indicate that he can be claimed as a dependent, on his return. This is worth up to $2500 (AOTC shifts to all non refundable)

I signed up to get my tax return up to 5 days early with credit karma. The turbo tax site says once my return is approved by the irs, they send me an email and go from there. My return was approved by the irs this past Saturday, February 21st, with an official deposit date of February 25th. However, the status has still not been updated on Turbotaxes website, and I'm clearly not getting my refund early. I'm very confused on what's going on, but I dont have access to a phone, so I can't call customer service.
Thank you for the clear information. Looks like I will have to amend my 2024 return.  Appreciate the response.   Steve

The preparation of Form 1040X Amended Return is expected to become available late on Feb 25 or morning of Feb 26.  It will hopefully be in this week's routine update which often occurs overnight early Thursday morning.   In the meantime, do NOT make any changes in your return.  When you start the amending process, it has to start off exactly as originally filed.   If you were due a Federal refund, you should wait for your original return to fully process at the IRS and that you have received the refund.   Before you prepare your amended return, also see the info in this FAQ and video:   FAQ:  How do I amend my Federal tax return for this current year? https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-return/amend-federal-tax-return-curr...   If you amend the Federal return, you may also have to amend the state return (if applicable.)

This does not work. In 1. I do not get the word "Review", I get the word "Update" However, after clicking on Update, I can do steps 2,3,4,5,6.  However, I do not get Review and more info about my RMD question mentioned in Step 7. Note that part of my RMD goes to charity as a QCD. I get no option for entering RMDs from other accounts - I only get the question for the RMD required for the one account where I took the total distribution. Does the QCD entry works but then it just goes to the screen that says I get a tax break not does not allow any more entries.
