It's not exactly clear what might be happening. Please review the information below and update here if you have more questions.   Recording your total sales tax in TurboTax Online can be done in one of two ways. Enter the full amount of sales tax paid last year including the vehicle portion or making sure you entered the sales tax rate accurately.   NOTE: If the rate was entered incorrectly it will cause the wrong information. Be sure to enter the percentage as 6.25 as example. Do not enter .0625.    An option is to use the steps below to enter your full sales tax for the year including the vehicle portion. Select Deductions & Credits Scroll to Sales Tax Select 'Enter actual sales tax paid (Requires receipts to support your total.)' Enter the total sales tax paid including the amount paid on your vehicles Select the larger deduction between state and local tax (SALT) and sales tax Finish this section @dlwhitcomb

Stop.   You cannot use the online program for a 2025 tax return.   Online is only for 2025 returns--- no other year.  Clear out any 2025 information you entered and save the account for your 2025 return.   To file a 2024 return:   Online preparation and e-filing for 2022, 2023, and  2024 is permanently closed.   Note:  The desktop software you need to prepare the prior year return must be installed/downloaded to a full PC or Mac.  It cannot be used on a mobile device.   To file a return for a prior tax year  If you need to prepare a return for 2022, 2023, or 2024  you can purchase and download desktop software to do it, then print, sign,  and mail the return(s) https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products/ You may also want to explore purchasing the software from various retailers such as Amazon, Costco, Best Buy, Walmart, Sam’s, etc.   Remember to prepare your state return as well—if you live in a state that has a state income tax.   https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/state-taxes/contact-state-department-revenue/L9qVToi02_US_en_US?uid=m6e06um0     When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.   Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.

This is how my screen looks, even after applying all updates, Feb 14 2026. I am using TurboTax Deluxe for Mac. Notice how the button is off center to the line "Certain public authorities." I guess I have to hope for the best, that they're not going to fix this quirky situation in this version of Turbotax.

Well, all is working OK today. A National Merit Scholar winner programmer's best advice to me years ago was, "if in doubt, reboot".

There are 8 states that do not tax their residents' income: Alaska, Florida, Nevada, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, and Wyoming.   For W2 - if your state is not listed it doesn't have an income tax.  Leave W2 boxes 15,16, & 17 BLANK, empty, no spaces.      For 1099R - If box 14 for state withholding is empty then leave all boxes 14-16 Blank.  If box 14 has an amount and box 16 is blank put in the amount from box 2a in box 16.  If box 2a is blank, and you haven't made after-tax contributions to the account, you can use the amount in box 1.
I got an email from Charles Schwab saying they would send me a corrected 1099 B by 2/27. Once available I will be able to import updated tax info into my tax preparation software.

The Form 1040X to amend a 2025 return is scheduled to be available on February 19---with that date subject to change.   But.....your parent(s) do not have to wait for you to amend.  Waiting will not help them.   Your amended return will take months to be processed.     They have two possible remedies:   File their return by mail.   Print, sign and date their return that claims you in ink, and mail it.   This will delay their refund but the IRS will not reject a mailed return.  You still must amend even if they file by mail.   They can seek IP PIN and try to e-file:   GET IP pin in order to e-file if your dependent’s SSN was claimed on another return   https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-takes-steps-to-help-prevent-refund-delays-by-accepting-duplicate-dependent-returns-with-an-ip-pin-for-2025-filing-season-taxpayers-encouraged-to-sign-up-soon-for-ip-pin-online-account   https://www.irs.gov/identity-theft-fraud-scams/get-an-identity-protection-pin
