Before logging into the Fidelity page again, I clicked on the little red and white Brave icon (looks like a lion) at the right end of the address/search bar, clicked on the slider to turn off "Shields," and those two clicks solved the problem! I successfully imported multiple 1099s from my Fidelity accounts, and they showed up in the right places on Turbotax."

Understand that entering zero means zero but it is perfectly logical for a user to enter zero -- meaning nothing -- and the software acccepts it. Correction: there is no problem in CA if 2a is left blank for all four 1099-R. But your software needs to reconcile what happens when zero is plugged into 2a! Again, zero is obviously incorrect but when an amount is asked for and the box is blank, zero is a very logical entry. Software should warn when zero is entered and 2b is checked.

Husband rolled over pension directly to IRA. We have a 1099-R, showing non-taxable. I've confirmed it was entered in TurboTax desktop correctly. When I get to the NJ State return, it asks if it was rolled into a SIMPLE IRA (no). Finish that, next screen indicates there's a rollover entered in the exact unique amount for me, questioning whether that was rolled to a SIMPLE IRA. Is this a software glitch? I had no rollovers in 2025. How do I get the fictitious/duplicate rollover in my name removed?

If you made contributions to a pretax deferred compensation plan, those are reported on your W-2 and are automatically not taxed as they are deducted from your the box 1 income, which should be equal to the income reported in box 16 of the W-2 for your Illinois wages.
If you received a 1099-R for distributions, enter that as normal in TurboTax. TurboTax will automatically remove that income from your Illinois taxable income on line 5 or your IL-1040 return. If using TurboTax download version, you can view your IL-1040 form by clicking on Forms at the top right, then look for your IL-1040 return in the left column and click on it to double check that the subtraction has been made.

Can someone explain to me the products available to file a Business Partnership? I would like to know what Turbotax Business product options are available. I need to file the Federal, and two state returns for a Partnership. I do not need Expert Assist, rather I just need the software to guide me through the questions concerning the tax filing.

Turbo tax shows I am eligible for American Opportunity Credit of $2,500 for graduate program (DMD degree). It is incorrect as AOTC is for under grad program only. Graduate program qualifies for LTC credit of $2,000. Disappointing that turbo tax can not identify simple tax credit elven though its an upload of 1098 T showing graduate program in check box. Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs) are the minimum amounts the IRS requires you to withdraw annually from your retirement accounts once you reach a specific age. Because these accounts (like Traditional IRAs and 401(k)s) allowed you to grow your money tax-deferred, RMDs are the government's way of finally collecting its share of taxes.
Here are the requirements as they stand for the 2026 tax year:
Based on the SECURE 2.0 Act, the age at which you must begin taking RMDs has increased. Your "Required Beginning Date" depends entirely on your birth year:
If you were born in 1950 or earlier, required to take RMDs at age 72 or 70½.
If you were born between 1951 – 1959, required to take RMDs at Age 73 If you turn 73 in 2026, your first RMD is for the 2026 tax year. You have until April 1, 2027, to take that first distribution, but all subsequent RMDs must be taken by December 31 of each year.
These accounts require RMDs: Traditional IRAs, SEP IRAs, SIMPLE IRAs, 401(k), 403(b), and 457(b) plans.

Not sure why you think it will be so costly to mail the amended return. You only mail the 1040X, the documents such as additional W-2's or 1099's that support the change, and possibly the original 1040. When you choose to print for filing by mail, it will print out just the pages needed to send in. You will not be mailing in all kinds of worksheets, etc.

Thank you for the fast response. Unfortunately the recycle bin was emptied. Also unfortunately, New York State does not accept mail in returns. With respect- any other suggestions? Would it be possible to refile with a different software company's federal and state return? From what I understand the federal return would instantly be rejected as it has already been accepted. Would the rejection of the federal return bounce the NY state return also? Thanks again.

For NonDividend Distributions, I have 8 lots purchased over a 6 month period in 2019 and 2020. My brokerage is reducing the cost basis by the distributions. For the reporting of capital gains once the cost basis reaches $0, do I look at the total for the 8 lots and the average cost basis, or do I need to report on a lot by lot basis? And will my brokerage let me know how much the Capital Gains are for that tax year?
