Hello Admittedly today is the first day of downloading forms. I have recently had throat surgery and it's difficult to get support. Schwab is not downloading, and after a difficult conversation (not Schwab's fault) they told me that it's a Turbotax issue. I don't know if I have to change any firewall setting or not. Never had to in the past. Any other Schwab customers having issues?

Are you sure it was from your 401K? The plan wouldn't let you do that. Or was it from a 401k that you had rolled over to a IRA? For a QCD, check 1040 line 4b. It should be 0 (unless you have other taxable 1099Rs) and the QCD box checked. The code in box 7 of form 1099-R must be 7 and the box IRA/SEP/SIMPLE must be checked. You can’t do a QCD from a 401K. If you are over 70 1/2 then after you enter the 1099R keep going though the followup screens. TurboTax will ask you if any portion of your distribution was transferred to charity. You can then enter the amount transferred to charity.

The1099-R in the name of the descendant or estate is included on the K-1 which goes on the beneficiaries' 1040. There is no additional reporting for this.

Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs) cannot be made directly from a 401(k); they must first be rolled over to an IRA.

The form 8606 should have carried over your cumulative basis each year. It sounds like it was not totaling as it went but just showing each year's basis on the forms. Since you know the total you should enter that now.

This is the situation that I asked about yesterday, and was told here that the withheld federal and state taxes cannot be credited towards the beneficiary's taxes; the withholding would have to be refunded to the estate, and then the estate would distribute those amounts to the beneficiary who would pay them with her tax return. I've been trying to find out here whether she needs to include the 1099-R to the estate, but assume there's no need since the K-1 shows the distributed amount. Is this not correct?

Social Security Retirement/Disability/Survivors benefits are reported on a form SSA-1099 and the benefits received are to be entered on a federal tax return. The benefits may be taxable depending on the amount of other income you have entered on your tax return.
To enter Social Security benefits reported on form SSA-1099
Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business) Click on Wages and Income (Personal Income using Home and Business) Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown) Scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security On Social Security (SSA-1099, RRB-1099), click the start or update button

Yes, if you lived in Kentucky al year, and worked in Ohio, your employer should have only withheld Kentucky state tax since those two states have a reciprocal agreement.
If you were a part-year resident, the agreement would not be valid.
If your employer withheld Ohio tax and you were a full-year resident of Kentucky, you should be able to file a non-resident Ohio return and get that Ohio state tax refunded. (You would also need to claim all the income on your Kentucky return)
Were you, and are you filing as, a full-year resident of Kentucky in 2025?
Are you claiming all the income on your Kentucky return and zero on your non-resident Ohio return?
If yes, can you give any additional details of the error message you are getting/

Very helpful suggestion to delete the 1099-Q from TT. Do you also suggest I delete the 1098-T for my student dependent as well? Seems odd to include that form from the University when I exclude the 1099-Q from the 529 provider. FWIW, I am careful that the 529 distribution equals and does not exceed tuition, room and board. My challenge is my student lives off campus so room and board isn't on the 1099-T from the university. I am using the TT online version. Agree this is SOOOO FRUSTRATING. I hope INTUIT has a suitable fix soon. Ughh.

Make sure the two-letter state abbreviation (AZ for Arizona, for example) matches the zip code on your income document (or it may be missing). Also check the address for any characters that may return an error (# or ,).
If you imported the document, you may need to delete it and re-enter it manually. If you're using TurboTax Online, clear your Cache and Cookies to remove links to old data, if you make changes.
