If you received a "Success" message that the import worked but your data hasn't appeared in TurboTax, it may be due to recent browser security updates regarding Local Network Access.   To fix this you need to allow TurboTax to securely retrieve your data through your browser settings. If using Chrome as a browser: Locate the View Site Information icon (the "tune" or "lock" icon) on the far left of your address bar, just before the URL. Find Local Network Access in the dropdown menu. Toggle the switch to ON. Refresh the page and attempt your import again. See this Apple webpage for information to control access to your local network on Mac.   If permissions aren't the issue, one of the following factors may be at play: Availability: Your brokerage must specifically "release" the import file to TurboTax. If it isn’t ready, we recommend checking back. Connection Blocks: Active VPNs or aggressive Anti-Virus software can occasionally block the import feature between your bank and TurboTax. Try disabling them temporarily or switching to a different browser.   If you've confirmed the file is available for import, and need to try the import again, you can also try clearing your browser's cache and cookies, try a different browser (Chrome, Firefox), or restart the browser/computer then try the import again.   If you have a Windows device and are able import the statement you need to a Windows computer, you can use these steps to move it to your Mac that has TurboTax:   Move the File: Copy your 1099 file from the original computer onto a USB flash drive or secure cloud storage. Transfer to Mac: Copy the file from the USB drive to your Mac's Desktop or Documents folder. Import into TurboTax: Open TurboTax for Mac. Select File in the top menu bar, then choose Import > From PDF. If uploading a specific 1099 (like 1099-B), search for "1099" in the search box, select the "Jump to" link, and follow the prompt to upload the file.  Please see this help article for more information about importing issues. @gbilodeau

Sorry no.  If your account says Ready to Mail that means you are suppose to print it out and mail it yourself to the IRS and state.    So it has not been filed yet.   And it will always say Ready to Mail. Turbo Tax doesn’t know if or when you mailed it and the IRS doesn’t update Turbo Tax when they get your mailed return. I am preparing my sons taxes, he claims himself on a single filer return.  He paid the spring 2025 tuition 12/27/2024 out of a college advantage account directly to the university.  Therefore, he did not get a 1099-Q in 2025.  In 2024 the university 1098-T did not check box 7 stating that tuition related to 2025.  In 2025 we did not get a 1098-T for the tuition for spring semester 2025 we only got a 1098-T for scholarship dollars that were applied to his account in January 2025.  If I use turbotax premier and fill in only the 1098-T that he received for the scholarship, he does not get the $1k college credit.  The university does not think the 1098-T is prepared incorrectly on their side.  How should this be reflected in turbotax so he gets the deduction given the documents that I have?

To apply a state refund I think it will be on one of the last screens before you file state.  Go to State Taxes tab and keep continuing and stepping though the interview about a dozen or more screens and it will finally ask how much you want to apply. It is probably one of the last questions in the state section.

Gambling winnings from Puerto Rico are generally treated as U.S. sourced income. If you are a U.S. citizen or resident, you would report these winnings on your federal income tax return (Form 1040) as "Other Income."  This will report the gambling winnings on your Schedule 1 which will flow to line 8 of your Form 1040.   On your federal tax return, you can only claim your gambling losses if you are itemizing your deductions. ‌You would only itemize your deductions if all of your itemized expenses exceed what you are getting for your Standard Deduction.    According to the IRS you must maintain a precise diary, log, or similar record of all winnings and losses, along with receipts, tickets, or statements.   Some states have rules for claiming gambling losses that differ from the federal rules mentioned above. Your gambling losses will flow from your federal return to your state return and will be reflected as a loss on your state return if your state allows you to deduct your gambling losses.   To enter your gambling winnings in TurboTax Desktop, you will do as follows: Select "Wages & Income" Click on "I'll Choose What I Work On?" Scroll down to "Less Common Income" Click "Start" next to "Prizes, Awards and Gambling Winnings" Follow through the screens and answer all follow-up questions related to your gambling winnings. To enter your gambling winnings in TurboTax Online you will do as follows: Click on "Wages & Income" Scroll down the page to "Less Common Income" Click the (down-facing) caret next to "Less Common Income" Click on "Start" next to "Gambling Winnings"   Click here for helpful information regarding reporting your gambling winnings and losses. @KrisD15,   My Mom received a letter in November 2025 from SSA saying that she would receive a payment because they owed money to a person previously entitled who is now deceased. My Dad passed in 2024.  I’m not referring to the $255 death benefit.    My Mom received her own 2025 SSA-1099.  Then she received an O/A/O SSA-1099 with her SSN in Box 2.  My Dad’s SSN only shows up in Box 8 to be used as a Claim Number if contacting SSA. The dollar amount in Box 5 of the O/A/O 1099, matches the dollar amount from the letter my Mom received.   I just need to know if the SSA-1099 O/A/O, Box 5 (Net Benefit) is considered a lump sum payment in TT?   Thank you to anyone able to assist me.

I am having a major issue with form 1116 in Turbo Tax Online. I have foreign income over the $600 limit of foreign taxes I want a credit for. I have foreign income from an RIC and 20 foreign countries. I am only able to input 1 item of the 21 when I go to the Foreign Tax Credit section. The instructions say to go to the credits & deductions and enter to Take a Credit which I did. I then entered the foreign income and answered the questions. But instead of allowing me to enter another country by returning to the new country entry page it makes me select done. I can't add any more countries. What is going on?  This is a major glitch in the program. From what I can gather it has been an ongoing issue since at least 2020!  How can I finish my taxes if I can't get past this issue?  Please help!

For depreciation, you won't add it to the cost of the original rental property, you'll create a new asset. This does increase the cost basis of the rental, but you need to keep separate assets because they were placed in service at different times. Here is how to add the roof: Go to Rental property (Schedule E):    Navigate to Federal > Income > Rental Properties and Royalties > Choose pencil icon next to the rental > Choose pencil next to "Rental Property" Under Assets heading  Now you'll see a list of depreciable assets already in service, select "Add"  Add details about the roof selecting "Rental real estate property as the asset category.

Thanks for the explanation. It’s a yes or no question, so saying “no” to skip the question is technically a lie.  The question is worded in a way that asks if you’ve ever received it. It doesn’t specify when. So maybe revising the question to something like, “In the 2025 tax year, did you receive the 2021 tax rebate?” would be helpful. There are Reddit threads on how confusing this is. If you could pass this along, that would be great! @Leticia

There are different steps to follow to use a tax file (.tax) versus a PDF. Your Mac should be able to convert the 2024 return in either format for use with the 2025 Mac program. Please see this article, and this one for PDF.   I have also found that even though the 2024 return doesn't show in the window that TurboTax provides for you to select from, if it's on the Mac, you can open a Finder window, select it there and then copy it to the TurboTax window.
