Delete her and try entering it again. Pay closer attention to the support question that says did your CHILD pay more than half of their support. Should be no. It's not asking if you did.

Could the old answer have been "cached" in the online forms, such that I need to do "more work" to force it to calculate actual expenses? Yes, I suspect that is what is happening. Unfortunately, I have seen MANY posts that indicate that TurboTax frequently does not 'accept' a changed answer and is 'stuck' on the original answer. I am unsure how to get around that program error.

The 1099-R is my pension for which I voluntarily withheld both federal (4) and state taxes (14). Line 16 is state distribution...am I suppose to put what my pension distributed to me into line 16 in order to be able to file my taxes online? I don't understand what is happening because I've been receiving a pension and filing taxes for years and never had an issue until now.

No, you cannot. You can split up the HSA and medical expenses, but that 7.5% floor cannot be made up of any money that was pulled from an HSA. It must only be an expense paid with after-tax money.

It sounds like using the HSA reimbursement may be the better option for you, depending on the amount of medical expenses you have and your AGI. I would suggest entering both ways separately to test this, to be certain you choose the most beneficial option for yourself.

I had almost the same problem last year on March 1, 2025 when I filed using eFile with an old PIN. My return was rejected immediately by the IRS due to wrong PIN. TurboTax then said that I needed to file an amended paper return by USPS. I then sent it out March 3, 2025 and the certified mail received is dated April 3, 2025. The IRS sent me a letter on September 15, 2025 saying I had made a $300 mistake so they were refunding ~$20,000 that I would receive in 4-6 weeks. In December 2025 I talked to IRS and asked If I could file an amended return and apply the refund to future taxes. Although I ask the same question about 5 times the 5 answers sounded like reading from a script and had nothing to do with the question, She said that I would receive my refund in 1 - 2 months. Now it is more than a year since I filed and have still not received the refund or any other correspondence and I just learned on this site that the TurboTax update a few days after I tried to eFile fixed the problem that created this problem. How many other people have this problem today?

The first step in requesting a correction is to examine a diagnostic tax file experiencing the situation. You can provide a diagnostic copy of your tax data file so that I can take a closer look. The diagnostic file will not contain personally identifiable information, only numbers related to your tax forms.
If you would like to provide us with the diagnostic file, follow the instructions below and post the token number along with which version of TurboTax you are using and what states you are filing in the thread. It would be helpful to have a screenshot of the token number to prevent it from being redacted.
If you are using a CD/downloaded version of TurboTax, use these steps:
Select Online at the top of the screen.
Select Send Tax File to Agent.
Click OK.
Post the token number here.
Thank you.

I had to use the help/Q&A inside turbo tax to determine whether to use standard deduction or actual expenses. It turns out that, since we put the car in service in 2021 and used actual expenses then (i.e., we used Schedule C and Form 4562), I was instructed that I "had" to use actual expenses every year after that. Perhaps of note, when I was working through the online prompts, I *first* did answer that I had used standard deduction before (since I didn't recall for sure) but later went back and changed from std deduction to actual expenses, as I later determined I was required to do. Could the old answer have been "cached" in the online forms, such that I need to do "more work" to force it to calculate actual expenses?

You are correct that their Form 1095-A needs to be entered on your tax return. As the beginning of the 1095-A section in TurboTax Online states: "If you, your spouse, or any dependent you claim was covered or bought health insurance through places like your state's marketplace or Healthcare.gov you’ll have to report it".
Even though your in-laws' names don't appear in the drop-down menu, go ahead and select you or your spouse's name. The information you enter in Box 1 and Box 2 will correctly identify the policy.
See this help article and this tax tips article for instructions on entering Form 1095-A.

Sorry NO. You can switch to the Online version. Mac & Windows System Requirements https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/system-requirements/help/minimum-system-requirements-for-turbotax-mac-software/00/25609 If you used the Desktop program last year here’s How to transfer into the Online version, expand the blue link if you used the CD/download last year https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/entering-importing/help/how-do-i-transfer-last-year-s-return-into-turbotax-online/00/25953 If you used the Desktop program before you may notice several differences and not like the online version. It has less features and no Forms Mode. You can only do 1 return. Your return is only saved online so be sure to save both the .tax2025 data file and the pdf file to your computer when you are done. In case you need to amend in the future or if you need a copy to get a loan or something. You might not be able to access your online return when you need a copy. The answer is NO According to IRS.gov: No Tax on Overtime For tax years 2025 through 2028, individuals who receive qualified overtime compensation may deduct the pay that exceeds their regular rate of pay (generally, the “half” portion of “time-and-a-half” compensation) that is required by the Fair Labor Standards Act and reported on a Form W-2, Form 1099, or other specified statement furnished to the individual. Maximum annual deduction is $12,500 ($25,000 for joint filers). Deduction phases out for taxpayers with modified adjusted gross income over $150,000 ($300,000 for joint filers). The deduction is available for both itemizing and non-itemizing taxpayers.

@biker4819 If there are taxes withheld in box 14 then that means taxes were withheld from state income. If there is no state income in box 16 then you will receive an error.

What’s wrong with box 14? If you have withholding in box 14 then type the same amount from box 1 into box 16.
