If you do not electronically file, the Federal income tax return is mailed to the IRS and your state income tax return is mailed to your state department of taxation.
If you are mailing your state income tax return, some states, in some instances, will require a copy of the Federal 1040 income tax return to be enclosed with the state income tax return.
If you are mailing your state or Federal income tax return, TurboTax will provide mailing instructions informing you what should be enclosed with your tax return(s).

In 2025 I only had $9K foreign income and no US income. I did not claim the foreign earned income exclusion because I was in the US for too long, so my foreign income is taxable in the US, and is reported in box 1h as "Other earned income" on Form 1040. Can this foreign income count towards my "taxable compensation" that determines my 2025 Roth IRA contribution limit?

Lines 19a to 19g are not populating with inserted numbers utilizing TurboTax Deluxe Desktop version. Per the IRS Form 5695 instructions, the credit for qualifying exterior doors should work as follows: Line 19a: Cost of the most expensive qualifying door Line 19c: 30% of line 19a, capped at $250 Line 19d: Cost of the two next most expensive qualifying doors Line 19e: Cost of all other qualifying exterior doors Line 19f: Sum of lines 19d and 19e Line 19g: 30% of line 19f Line 19h: Sum of lines 19c and 19g, capped at $500 In my case, I have two qualifying exterior doors, each costing $2,795. TurboTax correctly populates: 19a = $2,795 19c = $250 (30% of 19a, capped at $250) 19d = $2,795 (second door) 19e = $2,795 (also shows here depending on how it’s entered) 19f = $2,795 (sum of 19d and 19e as shown on the form) However, TurboTax then fails to perform the required calculation on line 19g and does not compute the additional credit: Line 19g is left blank, even though the instructions say: “Multiply line 19f by 30% (0.30).” Line 19h remains at $250, even though it should be the sum of 19c and 19g, capped at $500. Based on the IRS instructions, with two qualifying doors, the correct result should be: 19g = $250 (30% of 19f, capped at $250) 19h = $500 (19c + 19g, capped at $500) I have attached a screenshot of the filled‑in Form 5695 from TurboTax showing: 19a = 2,795 19c = 250 19d = 2,795 19e = 2,795 19f = 2,795 19g = blank (should be 250) 19h = 250 (should be 500) This indicates that TurboTax is not applying the 30% calculation to line 19f and is therefore under‑calculating the allowed credit. Additionally: When I attempt to use line 19e (“all other qualifying exterior doors”) as a workaround, TurboTax Smart Check flags this as an error, insisting that the “second” and “third” door fields be used first. Because of this, I cannot use a manual workaround within the software without triggering errors. Using an “override” on the form is not an acceptable solution, because overrides prevent e‑filing. I need to e‑file my return, so I need TurboTax to perform the calculation correctly without overrides.

If you have received a New York STAR credit check in 2025, it is considered a refund of property taxes. If you didn't itemize deductions on your 2024 federal return, you generally do not have to report the 2025 STAR check as taxable income on your federal return, even if you itemize in 2025. This is because it is not a recovery of a previously deducted amount.
The 2025 check is usually based on school tax savings for the 2024-2025 school year.

People stuck here with 500 pages, imagine my situation. Cointracker can't generate my 8949 form (8000 pages lol)m and even if they fix it I can't compress it well enough to be with Turbotax limit (20 mb) or FreeUsaTax limit (16 mb). So whatever I do, there is no option to e-file this. Imagine, NO LEGAL OPTIONS to file. I have csv file, but it is 100000 lines, which software supposed to support it? They say, you can mail it. Imagine printing 10k physical pages and mail it to IRS, how much it will cost? Ok, I checked Fedex printing pricing, it is currently pricing around $0.22 per white/black page, will result it additionally 2000 USD just to print this crap and then $100 probably to mail it lmao. I'm like what, GOOGLE company? And all this crap ONLY because turbotax by some unknown reasons decided to remove support of csv file from 2024 where it worked PERFECTLY.

If you still own the land, the general treatment is that the payment is not income but reduces the basis in the land that you own. So, if you paid $10,000 for the land and received a right of way payment for $1,000, your new basis in the property is $9,000. You still have to deal with the 1099 that was reported to the IRS. You may elect not to enter the income and then respond when and if a tax authority contacts you at a later time. You may also report the income, then immediately report a minus entry for the same amount. Reference both entries as 'right of way sold - basis adjustment'. In TurboTax Online, follow the steps below to report this income that is not reported as self-employment income. Down the left side of the screen, click Federal. Down the left side of the screen, click Wages & Income. Click the down arrow to the right of Less Common Income. Click to the right of Miscellaneous income…. Click to the right of Other reportable income. At the screen Any Other Taxable Income enter the description of the income. Click Add another Miscellaneous income Item. View the entries at Tax Tools / Print Center / Print, save or preview this year's return / Include government and TurboTax worksheets. The income will be listed on line 8z of the Schedule 1 Additional Income and Adjustments to Income and line 8 of the Federal 1040 tax return. @tfjason2

I am trying to post this again... I am reporting what appears to be a calculation bug in TurboTax’s implementation of IRS Form 5695, specifically for lines 19a through 19h for energy‑efficient exterior doors. Based on the IRS instructions, with two qualifying doors, the correct result should be: 19g = $250 (30% of 19f, capped at $250) 19h = $500 (19c + 19g, capped at $500) My Form 56954 shows the following: 19a = 2,795 19c = 250 19d = 2,795 19e = 2,795 19f = 2,795 19g = blank (should be 250) 19h = 250 (should be 500) This indicates that TurboTax is not applying the 30% calculation to line 19f and is therefore under‑calculating the allowed credit. Can this mathematical bug be fixed with an update?

To be tax free, distributions from the HSA must be applied to qualified medical expenses, making them reimbursed expenses. Because the amount of your medical expense deduction depends on the amount of unreimbursed medical expenses, your medical expense deduction would be reduced (but not below zero) by any tax-free distribution made from the HSA. See the caution above line 1 of Schedule A. This can also be said the other way around. An amount included on Line 1 of Schedule A is not permitted to have been paid from an HSA. Including an expense on line 1 and paying it from an HSA would indeed be a prohibited double application of the expense.
