Please clarify - have you done the federal S-Corp returns already? Once you've done that any state filing should be generated by the system.

A TurboTax Expert sent me two emails with information, but the emails say I have to login to the website to see the messages. After I login, I can't find where the messages are. Searching online only tells me to look in my account information or to look for a bell icon on the top-right of the window. I still can't find any messages. Where should I be looking?

Virginia State does not prompt me to enter 529 contributions. The help documentation asserts that users will be prompted to enter the deduction but they are not. This is a very common deduction that tens of millions of taxpayers make. Why is it not prominently featured in the wizard-based questionnaire? This has been a problem for years. TurboTax please fix this.

Specific details of a QCD are not to be included anywhere in you tax return. In the unlikely event that the IRS questions the QCD, they will ask for supporting documentation.

My ex got custody of our daughter July 23, 2025. Due to the circumstances around that, we have not spoken since. She was with my husband and I for more than half the year, so I did claim her on our taxes. Would they have been rejected immediately instead of being accepted if he had already claimed her?

Upon the death of the decedent, responsibility to distributed the decedent's RMD for the year shifted to the the beneficiaries. On the decedent's tax return, do not include as a required amount any portion that shifted to beneficiaries. With the entire balance having been distributed to beneficiaries, the year-of-death RMD has been satisfied. All that matters on the beneficiaries' tax returns is that Form 5329 Part IX is not populated. That can be done by either indicating that no RMD was required (even though it was), or by indicating that the required amount was some portion of amount that was actually distributed.

My daughter, a non dependent (turned 24 in 2025) received a 1098-T (for $10K) and a 1099-Q (for part of the year's distribution--$3K). I, the parent and 529 custodian also received a 1099 Q for the balance on the 1098-T of $7K. TT says I don't need to enter the 1099 Q I received. Is that correct? Does it need to be entered on MY personal taxes? And, if so do I enter PART of the 1098T on my daughter's taxes and PART of the 1098T on my taxes?

I saw this on a different thread. “If you itemized your deductions, the excess property taxes would be the taxes not allowable for itemized deductions because of limits applied on the deduction of state taxes. On Form 8829, your property taxes are entered on line 17 only if you take the standard deduction. If you itemize your deductions, the property taxes will show on line 11 for the amount allowable for itemized deductions and the excess on line 17. Either way, all of your property taxes are listed on Form 8829 to be allocated to your home office based on the size of the office to the size of the whole house.”

My check was a bad check. I deposited it into my account, and the bank called to tell me it wouldn't go through and was sent back to them. I called TurboTax, and they're giving me the run around, but they did confirm that the check number wasn't the same as what they have. However, when I tried talking to Cross River Bank, they told me I have the wrong department and transferred me back to TurboTax.

And the Deductions & Credits section does not need to know about a QCD because it is not a deduction. It is not part of your taxable income in the first place.
