Virginia State does not prompt me to enter 529 contributions. The help documentation asserts that users will be prompted to enter the deduction but they are not. This is a very common deduction that tens of millions of taxpayers make. Why is it not prominently featured in the wizard-based questionnaire? This has been a problem for years. TurboTax please fix this.

You get a prompt for all of the income item adjustments on one page.
As you click through the VA state return, you will come to a page titled Here's how Virginia handles income differently. When you are on that page, you can scroll down to the Education section and select Start next to Commonwealth Savers (Section 529) Plan.
Virginia offers 529 Plans:
- Virginia Education Savings Trust (Invest529)
- Virginia Prepaid Education Program (Prepaid529)
- CollegeWealth (only through certain banks)
- CollegeAmerica (only through financial advisers)
The amount of the deduction depends on your age, how much you paid toward a prepaid tuition contract or contributed to a savings account this year and if your payments to these accounts in a prior year were more than the maximum deduction allowed.
that screen does not appear in my uptodate desktop program
You don't get the VA income adjustments page shown below? Have you gone all the way through the Virginia return? And what version of desktop are you using?
Look at the top of the page if you already entered an amount. The edit box moves up to the top after entry. If you still have issues, please let us know what you do see on that screen (the screen titled Here's the income that VA handles differently)?
