For noncovered securities, you need to manually enter your cost basis to determine the gain/loss because brokers are not required to report it to the IRS.
Therefore, when inputting the information about these securities on Form 8949, it is important to know your cost basis so that TurboTax can then determine your actual gain/loss.
Once you have made your entries, to confirm that they are correct, you can refer to your Form 8949 and Schedule D.
The totals from your Form 8949 should carry over to Schedule D, wherein you will see the total gain/loss of your transactions.

What do you mean by "hers?' If you are filing a joint return there are not two tax returns. Everything goes on ONE tax return for both spouses. So it sounds like you got confused about how to prepare a joint return. You will have to wait for the return you filed to be fully processed and then amend it to include all of your spouse's income and information.
The 1040X becomes available in late February. Wait until your return has been fully processed and then amend.
When you enter the primary spouse’s information in My Info, you have to answer the question "Were you married?" If you click the button for Married, then a drop down will appear that asks, "Do you want to file this return together with your spouse?" Then you choose YES to file a joint return. You enter your spouse's information into My Info. Whenever you are entering income information there should then be a spot for you and for your spouse's income information. WATCH for the names as you enter income on the screens. Or when you click to add income it will prompt you to choose which spouse had the income.
When you prepare a joint return you include all the information for both spouses on the SAME tax return. Include all of your personal information, all of your income from every source, all dependents (if any), all credits and deductions for both of you. You get ONE refund with both names on it.
And…keep a record of how to access the “old” account for your spouse in case a need comes up to print it or find information from it. TT will save it online for seven years,

@bankervp Make sure you are not using the Brave browser as the default....need Chrome or Edge. Then, there is a STRANGE pop-up that MUST be accepted, allowing access to your device. Read and follow this post from Doug34: "I initially ran into the same problem described by others here. The Intuit website declares success, but TurboTax doesn't get the document. In my case this was caused by the fact that I denied the Intuit site permission to access my local network. Choose Allow, and you should be fine. If you already denied permission, you will be stuck until you reset this permission. In Chrome on Windows, you can do this by clicking on the View Site Information icon just to the left of the address bar. Turn on Local Network Access and try again. This solved the problem for me"

Which firm from the dropdown are you using for the import? Merrill Edge (probably most users) is not available (yet) in the dropdown list.

Which state? I am using the Premier desktop edition and downloaded my state weeks ago.

i got a notification saying an update was generated to solve my problem, but it described a different problem. "TTO - 1098-T information not flowing to Student Info Worksheet causing error in Review". I opened TurboTax and it did an update, but the problem regarding entering other college expenses is still not flowing to that screen in the step by step. So I guess another round of calls. If I don't get a quick answer that the correct fix is still being worked I may request a refund and move on to H&R block software. Has anyone used that before? Similar to TurboTax?

In most states, a driver's license is not required to file, so you may be able to 'skip' this entry and Continue.

I received the following rejection message when trying to e-file my wife's federal and state returns: spouse ssn in return must not be the same as primary ssn on another return filed for the same tax year. Both of my returns, federal and state, have already been accepted. I have carefully checked all forms for correct entries of ssn numbers and not found any errors. We both have only one state and residence income for last year. Last year, however, we filed married filing separately, as it was less of a tax bite. This year, we are filing married filing jointly as the new tax laws are much better for us. I'm retired, but my wife still works. I think I read that TT perhaps carries this info over incorrectly into this year? Do I need to wait until the 1040X comes out to amend my return so that hers can be accepted? (I am getting neither federal or state refunds this year) If someone can help, I would be most appreciative, Thanks so much!

No. If you are being claimed as a dependent by your parents in TX, they can say on their return that you lived with them all year; living away at school is a "temporary absence" from home. But if you worked in IL, you are subject to paying IL income tax and will need to prepare a non-resident tax return for IL. TX has no state income tax so you have nothing to prepare for TX.

It is automatic based on your age. It is not part of your Standard Deduction. The new Senior Deduction is separate and in addition to the Standard Deduction or your Itemized Deductions on 1040 line 12e. The 6,000/12,000 senior deduction will be calculated on 1040 Schedule 1-A page 2 Part V Enhanced Deduction for Seniors which goes to 1040 line 13b with any other sch 1-A amounts. Turbo Tax automatically includes it if you qualify. If you are married you have to file a Joint return.

The Form 1040-X is estimated to be available in TurboTax on 02/19/2026
An amended return, Form 1040-X, can only be printed and mailed to the IRS if the original tax return was not e-filed. The IRS will take up to 20 weeks or longer to process an amended tax return.
Before starting to amend the tax return, wait for the tax refund to be received or the taxes due to be paid and processed by the IRS.
