Did you click that big orange button that said “Transmit my return now?”  If you did that, you cannot do anything to fix it yet.  You have to wait for the email that tells you if your return was accepted or rejected.   Since the IRS will not begin to accept/reject returns until January 26, you are going to be waiting in “pending” for awhile.  Your return is sitting on a server, where you cannot fix  it or get it back.   You cannot change or add anything on the return that you just e-filed, nor can you stop it.  It is too late, just like when you put an envelope in a US mailbox on the corner.  The IRS does not allow you to take it back.   If you left out a W-2, a 1099G, or a dependent, or a 1099 etc…DO NOT change your return while it is “pending.”  The changes will go nowhere.   Now you have to wait until the IRS either rejects or accepts your return.  If your return is rejected, you will be able to go into your account and make the necessary changes to your tax return and re-submit your return.     If the IRS accepts your return, however, then you have to wait longer until it has been fully processed and you have received your refund.  THEN you can prepare an amended tax return and e-file or mail  it in. You have to be able to work from that return exactly the way it was when it was e-filed originally.  You will need to use a form called a 1040X.     Meanwhile, DO NOT go in and start changing anything on your return in the system, or you will make a mess for yourself.  Sit tight and wait until you see what the IRS does with the return you just e-filed   The Form 1040X you need becomes available in late February,  But wait until your return has been processed.

The dates are subject to change.   Tax form availability tool     Be patient.    IF you e-file now, your return will go into “pending” until the IRS starts to accept/reject returns in late January. You cannot make any changes while the return is on the server. The IRS will start to accept/reject 2025 e-files on January 26.   And….a state return cannot be accepted until after the IRS accepts your federal return.         https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-announces-first-day-of-2026-filing-season-online-tools-and

You received a message from Marketing.  Marketing does not really know if your W-2 is available now.  They just want your business.   Your employer has until January 31 to issue your W-2.   TurboTax does not have your W-2.   W-2’s come from employers.  There is not a federal or national website that provides W-2’s.   If your employer is partnered with TurboTax to allow the W-2 data to be imported into the software you can do that---but you need the actual W-2 so that you can enter the EIN and the amount from box 1 to import the other data from the W-2---which just saves you the little bit of keying in of the other information.   Every 2025 W-2 that you received must be reported on your 2025 tax return, even if they are for small amounts.  Remember that each one of those W-2’s has your Social Security number on it, and that income was reported to the IRS by the employer.  You do not want trouble with the IRS for under-reporting your income or have your refund delayed by having missing income.   ALL of your W-2’s must be entered on the SAME tax return.     Go to Federal>Wages & Income to enter a W-2. After you enter the first one, you click Add Another W-2.

The first thing to check is that Square has the data ready for the 2025 calendar year. Try these steps to resolve the connection: Enable Third-Party Data Sharing: Log in to your Square Dashboard in a separate browser tab. Go to Settings > Account & Settings > Business Information. Ensure that Third-Party Data Sharing is enabled. Even if it appears to be "On," toggle it off and back on again to refresh the permission. Use an Incognito/Private Window: Open your browser (Chrome or Firefox) in Incognito/Private mode. Log in to TurboTax Online and attempt the Square import again. This bypasses cached data that may be blocking the connection. Check Your Network Connection: If you are using a VPN, Ad-blocker, or high-security firewall, disable it temporarily. These services often block the secure API calls required to transfer data between Intuit and Square. If you are on Wi-Fi, try switching to a mobile hotspot or an ethernet (wired) connection to rule out router-level blocking.

If you are looking at box 14 to find a category, there is not one there.  You will enter the Overtime after you enter your W-2 and then hit continue.  This year there is not a code that has been established for employers to use that would have the OT automatically deducted by entering it in Box 14. If you DID have OT that qualifies, then you can take the following steps to enter your Overtime for the No Tax on Overtime deduction Enter your W-2 Select Continue Continue through to select Overtime under One of these less common situations You will be given the opportunity to have TurboTax help you calculate your Overtime or You can select you already know the amount.  Select the one that applies for you and then walk through the steps to enter your OT To qualify for the No Tax on Overtime Deduction the following must apply: You must be a non-exempt employee eligible for Overtime under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act The Overtime must be on hours worked OVER 40 hours.  (if you live in a state where OT pay is required after 8 hours, this does not apply) Overtime must be paid at more than your regular hourly rate.   Only the amount that is over your regular hourly rate is deductible.  For example,  If you make $30 per hour and are paid OT at $45 an hour, you can only deduct $15 per hour as overtime deduction. The deduction is limited to $12,500 Your filing status cannot be Married Filing Separately Your income must be less than $150,000 if you are single or $300,000 if Married Filing Jointly.  Remember, this is a deduction NOT a credit.  This means it will lower your taxable income, which can lower your tax liability.  You will  NOT see a refund in the amount of the OT you enter. The OT is reported on Schedule 1-a, line 14a with the total amount you are qualified for reported on line 21 of Schedule 1-2.   If you are getting the deduction and have income left to reduce, you will see the change to your income on line 11a of your form 1040.  If your AGI is lower than $12,500 your benefit from the deduction will be limited to your AGI before the deduction.  To see your form 1040 you can switch to forms mode if you are using TurboTax Online or if you are using the online version you can select Tools>>Tax Tools>> Preview my 1040.

I am reading there is no Schedule K-1s for regular investments and she should receive a 1099 - INT and 1099-DIV for reporting stock interest and dividends but the brokerage is not issuing any 1099 to her, so it seems we don't report those?   Also, I am considering filing an amended 1040 for 2024, to change the filing from Married Filing Separate to Married Filing Jointly because her only income was investments and her employer says she had no income in 2024 and there is no Statement of Taxable Earnings from them. So, there is only a negligible amount of income from investments on her 2024 1042-S, and instead of the considerable amount of income taxes I paid for Married Filing Separate, I should receive a refund. However, I don't want to open a can of worms by reporting no wages for her for 2024. What do you think? Thanks.

@quinnmichael1957    Too soon to amend 2025 taxes now. 1)  First, you must see if the IRS Accepts or Rejects what you e-filed already....(except for a few test files) The IRS expects to start sometime the week of 26 January.   Your Original filing cannot be stopped.   2)  If it ends up being "Rejected" by the IRs, then you can just edit your file and resubmit.   3)  If it is "Accepted"    THEN: You have to wait for the "Original" refund that you just filed...(or PAY what you owed on the original...if you owed).   4)  If #3 is complete...then you can amend BUT, no amendments can be done until TTX makes the form 1040-X available...which will be on/after 19 February !!

Just enter a US area code and then a phony number.  A phone number is not required to file a tax return although TurboTax requires one to complete a return. Use (202) 222-2222
