I do not believe he is a corporation. I see an LLC filed with the state that appears to be a sole proprotor. I do have his name, company name and address. Should I just send him a hand written 1099 NEC and send one to the IRS? He caused a lot of damage to my property because all the irrigation lines leaked so I can understand why he refuses to respond to me asking for the W9 or EIN request. I feel I have not done anything wrong and do not want to risk being audited because he is a dishonest person.

It is no longer creating income, as a family member lives there now.

What does the IRS notice say was wrong in your 2022 tax return? What changes did they make?

What is the notice or letter number of the form you received from the IRS in the mail detailing the amount you owe? The notice or letter number would be in the upper right corner of the first page.

Hey so, yes I am eligible. The TurboTax associate I spoke to said this has actually been an issue with the option not showing up. I was told I have to wait until it lets me amend and then only amend the how I receive my refund part. Hopefully that works. That's what I get for filing early.

Why not just file a Form 8949 and Schedule D with all related info including decentralized transactions? Does it need to be 1099-DA? I don’t believe so. We really need that custom CSV.

I paid my tenant "cash for keys" and removed my house from the rental market. I'm reporting the amount in box 3 "Other income" I did not withhold any Federal or State taxes from the cash for keys payment. I am in California and I do not have a CA (8 digit) ID number. What do I put in box 17 and 18 on form 1099 Misc? Box 17 "State/Payer's state no.": enter "CA" and leave the "Payer's state no." blank? Box 18 "State income": enter amount I paid the tenant? or leave both boxes 17 and 18 blank? IF I leave box 17 "Payer's state no." blank, will this cause a Turbo Tax "error flag" when the tenant uses Turbo tax to file their return? Thank you.

Were you able to resolve this?
The Refund Advance is not available to everyone. You want to make sure you are eligible. I am also putting instructions below that on how to see if you applied for the Refund advance.
Here are a couple things to check:
If you are using a TurboTax partner affiliate link to use the software, the Refund Advance will not be available.
If you select the 5 Day Early Refund Delivery, you will not see the Refund Advance option, but you can return to the refund selection page and find all the options listed.
See this resource for more information:
Offer details and disclosures for the Refund Advance program
Refund Advance Eligibility
Here are some of the eligibility requirements to qualify for a Refund Advance loan:
You’re 18 or older
Your expected federal refund amount is $500 or more
You’re not a resident of North Carolina, Connecticut, or Illinois
You’re e-filing your federal tax return with TurboTax
Your physical address is listed on your tax return. Your address must be located in one of the eligible states and can’t be a PO box or prison address
You’re not filing one of these tax forms: 1310, 4852, 4684, 4868, 1040SS, 1040PR, 1040X, 8888, or 8862
You aren’t filing on behalf of a deceased taxpayer
You must report income on a Form W-2, 1099-R, or Sched C
You must open or have an existing Credit Karma Money™ checking account
To check if you signed up for the TurboTax Refund Advance, you can look in a few specific places in your account or your email.
Check Your TurboTax Order Details
On the Tax Home page, scroll down to the section for "Your tax returns & documents."
Select View Order Details.
Look for "Refund Advance" or "Credit Karma Money" listed under your payment and refund methods.
If it’s not there, you likely selected a standard direct deposit or a different refund option.
Look for Confirmation Emails
If you applied, you should have received automated emails from TurboTax and its partners.
From TurboTax: Search for an email confirming your "Refund Selection."
From Credit Karma: If you were approved, Credit Karma sends an email when the funds are deposited into your Credit Karma Money Spend account.
From WebBank: If your application was denied, you will receive an email from WebBank (the lender) explaining the reason for the decline.
Check Your Credit Karma Money Account
Because the Refund Advance is deposited into a Credit Karma Money™ Spend account, checking that account is the fastest way to see if the loan was processed.
Log in to your Credit Karma account.
Navigate to the Money tab.
If you see a pending or completed deposit for a portion of your refund (typically between $250 and $4,000) shortly after the IRS accepted your return, that is your Refund Advance.
Review Your Tax Return Summary
You can also find clues on your actual tax forms:
Open your 2025 return in TurboTax
Go to the Tax Tools menu on the left
Select Print Center
View your Federal Information Worksheet
Look at the "Direct Deposit" section
If you signed up for the advance, the bank account listed will be the MVB Bank account associated with Credit Karma, rather than your personal bank account.

@Mike9241 is correct; check and see if the contractor is a corporation (no 1099 needed). Also, you don't need to issue a 1099 to the contractor unless your rental property constitutes a "trade or business". For example, if you're taking a QBI deduction, you should issue a 1099.

unlikely to cause an audit. However, in the future, get the W-9 before you sign any contract or before work begins if there is no formal contract. If the IC is a corporation, no 1099 is issued.

It is not part of your Standard Deduction. The new Senior Deduction is separate and in addition to the Standard Deduction or your Itemized Deductions on 1040 line 12e. The 6,000/12,000 senior deduction will be calculated on 1040 Schedule 1-A page 2 Part V Enhanced Deduction for Seniors which goes to 1040 line 13b. Turbo Tax automatically includes it if you qualify. For Online version you can preview the 1040 https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/accessing/help/how-do-i-preview-my-turbotax-online-return-before-filing/00/26160 The maximum deduction is $6,000 for each person 65+. The phaseout is 6% of the amount by which MAGI exceeds $75,000 for single or $150,000 for married filing jointly (MFJ). The MAGI is normally the same as your AGI on 1040 line 11 but with some Foreign items from Form 2555 added back in. On a joint return the phaseout is calculated separately for each person, so the 6% phases out for each spouse. You can not get it if you file MFS Married filing Separate.
