@user17727463601 generally if your state program allows it, a miscellaneous/manual subtraction to income seems to have worked for most people with some exceptions e.g. apparently this adjustment precludes e-file for NY. another option is to add the AMD into the US Gov Obligations $ amount on a 1099-DIV; if you don't have one you can enter a placeholder 1099-DIV with $0 in Box 1a and the AMD as the US Gov - Turbotax allows it but not tried this method thru to filing.

This sounds like a problem with the import of the 1099-R. In order to fix this you should delete the 1099-R that you imported and tell the system "I'll type it in myself". Then enter all of the information from the 1099-R manually. That should make everything calculate correctly.

When you have part of your home rented out, the program will ask if you want to do the math or if you want the program to do it. If you let the program do the math, you enter your full 1098 amount on the Sch E and the program pulls the remainder to the Sch A for you. You would not enter it again under Deductions.

In order to file using TurboTax, if you are not a US Citizen, then you would need to either meet the Substantial Presence Test or the Green card Test.
Since you were on the F-1 visa, you would be exempt for 5 calendar years while here on that visa. This means you would not start counting your days for substantial presence until you moved to the H1-B visa in October.
To meet the substantial presence test, you would need 183 days that were non-exempt. Since you didn't switch until October, you would not meet the 183 day requirement so you would still file a 1040 NR with Sprintax.com

The LLC partnership files a tax return (due March 15) and then issues a K-1 for you to enter on your tax return. On your personal return, you will go to Business Investments and select K-1 to enter your form.
If you filing the partnership tax return, the rental house goes on Form 8825. If you are the one waiting for a form, you can check with your partner for when you may expect your form. The partnership can file an extension while leaves you waiting another 6 months.

To avoid pro rata rule implications as we started doing backdoor roths in 2025, I withdrew all of a small traditional ira my wife's past job's 403b had converted to. The total amount withdrawn from the trad IRA was $1,030.61. Federal income tax withheld at the time was $103.06 (10%). Box 7 distribution code is 1. My understanding is that I am to pay a 10% penalty on the whole withdrawn amount since it was all tax deferred money which would be $103.06 in addition to regular income taxes on the withdrawal. However, Turbotax is calculating my early withdrawal penalty at $13 (Schedule 2, line 😎 and I do not understand why. Can someone please help me fix this? It won't let me manually change the amount to correct penalty I should pay which I believe should be $103.06.
