If the return is already filed, you can't change that in TurboTax anymore. The IRS will likely mail you a "CP53E notice", which will ask you to provide an electronic payment method, and you can provided the prepaid debit card info, if you have a routing and account number.  If you don't respond to the notice, they will still mail a check.   See: Modernizing payments to and from America’s bank account

Please allow me to ask you a number of questions:   1. Were either one of you 5 or over by December 31, 2025? 2. Just to confirm, the 1099-SA that you received was (1) for the anticipated excess contribution amount for 2025, and (2) had a code of '1'? 3. When you entered the 1099-SA, did you tell TurboTax that this $2,000 was all for qualified medical expenses?   I think you may have a timing issue, but I need to know what exactly you did before I can say.

I am also getting forced to Schedule C with my royalty income in TurboTax Deluxe. I have deleted my 1099 and reentered a new one several times, following the instructions of ThomasM125. It insists on making me answer the question of what type of work this is? One issue that may be a factor is that line 3 of the 1099-Misc contains an about for Other Income. Help!

I believe then that he got reimbursed for the wages he missed for the time he spent in training. In that case, what he received was wages so he needs to pay social security tax on that income. If you treat it as self-employment income, that will accomplish that. However, the company should have reported it as wage income on a W-2 form, so you could ask them to correct that, but they likely won't do that. It is interesting to note, if he reports it as self-employment income, he will have to pay approximately an extra 7.5% self-employment tax equal to the share of social security tax the company should have paid.

Did you buy 2 programs or just want to install the same program in another user account?   If you bought 2 programs you only needed to buy 1.   The Desktop program can do unlimited returns and efile 5 federal for free, state efile is a separate charge.  But you can only have 1 program installed on the same computer at a time.   Don't know how it would work under 2 user accounts.  You may have to use it in the same user account for all returns.     Here's how to activate a different version. There is a way to have 2 licenses. You don't need to install the second version just enter the License Code. Under Help - Switch Product - Activate new product. Don't know what that will do or what benefit you will get. It won't allow you to efile more than 5 or get a different free state program download. You should try to efile the most complicated ones first. Maybe a simple one can use the Online Free Edition.

I have form 1099-R from my financial institute where I rolled over my Roth 401k to Roth IRA as it is. When I filed my tax it is checking the 4c as rollover with no amount on 4a and adding amount to 5a without checking any option to 5c as result my return was rejected by IRS with reason code : "F1040-478 - If Form 1040, 'IRADistributionRolloverInd', 'IRADistributionQCDInd' or 'IRADistributionOtherInd' is checked, then 'IRADistributionsAmt' or 'TaxableIRAAmt' must have a non-zero value."   I tried to delete and add the from multiple times but still seeing the same on the final review page. How do i procesed from here ?

Use your December 31, 2025, brokerage statement to find the "Fair Market Value" or "Closing Balance" as of Dec 31, 2025.   If you have multiple Traditional, SEP, or SIMPLE IRA accounts, you must add all their 12/31 balances together. (Do not include Roth IRA balances in this specific total).   The program is probably asking for the value of your Traditional IRA(s) because: If you made a contribution to a Traditional IRA but didn't take a tax deduction for it, the IRS requires Form 8606. If you have any after-tax money in your IRAs and you took a distribution (or did a conversion), the IRS forces you to take a proportional mix of pre-tax and after-tax money (in order to calculate that exact percentage, they need your total year-end balance). If you are of Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) age, the program needs the 12/31 balance to make sure that you took out enough.

FYI: I did my turbo tax Delaware 2025 and gave it to my Tax professional... we were exact for Federal and within $10 when we were Married filing together was on Delaware..... when my professional changed it to submit the Delaware Tax filing under "Married filing Combined Separate" (and I changed it also) the difference was close to a $1000, with mine lowering about $500 refund and his increasing to $1000 refund.   Of course we filed his return for the additional refund.   Have you had problems with this?   Thanks,   Fred [email address removed]

You can't install two different personal TurboTax desktop programs for the same tax year on the same computer. It will cause software conflicts. One I TurboTax Desktop installation can be used by multiple users to prepare up to five federal returns. Or you can install the second on a different computer.   You can install a TurboTax Business Desktop program along with a personal version on the same computer..
