I am a self-published author, declaring hobby income because I have losses more than the 3-year out of 5 period.   Thus, I am not filing as a business.  I understand that if I pay via credit card or an online payment service, they could be subject to a 1099-K and I would not have to concern myself with this, but if I pay more than $600 via check, must I issue a 1099-MISC given I am not considered a business for IRS purposes?
You'll need to amend your 2023 return to add the asset and depreciate it or elect to take a 179 deduction if eligible.

I have entered the 1099-g form under state tax refund, but it doesn't show up on schedule 1, line 1. I have tried to go back and edit and it keeps taking me through this loop where it says i have already entered it for this state. I don't want to delete the schedule 1 worksheet because it has other incomes on there. what should i do?

Do you want the 2023 return to open in the new computer or to Transfer into 2024?   For Windows. Your tax files end in .tax or starting in 2008, .tax2008, .tax2021, .tax2022, .tax2023 etc. They should be in your Documents in a Turbo Tax folder. You should also have the pdf files of each year. Or search your computer for all files ending in .tax. What I would do on the old computer, is copy the whole Turbo Tax folder that is under your Documents. That should be where the .tax files and pdf files are stored. Also if you haven't done it, I would open each year in the program and save it as a pdf file, go to FILE - SAVE TO PDF so you don't need the program installed to view your return. Copy that folder to a flash drive or best yet is to burn it to a CD or DVD and then you will have a backup of them. Then on the new computer copy the folder (or files) from the flash drive to your Documents folder. You only need the tax return data file ending in .tax2023 to transfer into 2024 or .tax2024 to transfer into next year. You can't transfer the programs. They have to be installed from the CD or Download. You don't need to install older programs unless you need to amend or you didn't save the pdf file. And they only support the last 3 years. If you install an older year you won't be able to update it or download any state programs, so you won't be able to open your return. See this article on how to move your tax return to another computer……. https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/tax-data-file/help/how-do-i-move-my-tax-data-file-to-another-computer/00/26128 IMPORTANT After you get the program installed or reinstalled the first thing to do before you open your tax return is to update the program and install any state programs you had. Then open your file. So you first might need to start a fake return to be able to download the state program (go to FILE - NEW). Enter some basic information, then go to the state tab and download the state program. Then try to open your existing return, go to FILE - OPEN

To clarify, you are using TurboTax Online?    When we are opening tokens they open in TurboTax Desktop and in TurboTax Desktop you get follow-up questions for the inherited Roth IRA. But when I tested it in TurboTax Online I don't get the RMD questions for the inherited Roth IRA. When I recreate the entry of the two Form 1099-Rs in TurboTax Online I do not get a penalty on Form 5329.   Can you try one more time to delete the Form 1099-R for the Roth IRA and then go all the way through the retirement income interview.  Then add the Form 1099-R for the Roth IRA again.    If you are still having issues you might need to switch to TurboTax Desktop: How do I switch from TurboTax Online to TurboTax Desktop?   @jfschultz

Is this something new for the state of Colorado?  I enter contributions and donations every year but then I use the standard deduction - which is what TurboTax advises for me.  I have NEVER been required to send any sort of backup to the state because essentially, I am not deducting these from my calculations. If I am not using the contributions to calculate my Federal taxes, why would I have to carry them over to the state?

I also went in and tried to delete form 8959 using the tools in turbotax and it still is trying to make me upgrade in order to file. please advise.

Per IRS: Taxpayers complete Form 8862 and attach it to their tax return if: Their earned income credit (EIC), child tax credit (CTC)/additional child tax credit (ACTC), credit for other dependents (ODC) or American opportunity credit (AOTC) was reduced or disallowed for any reason other than a math or clerical error. They want to take the credit(s) and meet all the requirements. If that doesn't apply to you, delete the form: Open or continue your return in TurboTax. In the left menu, select Tax Tools and then Tools. In the pop-up window Tool Center, choose Delete a form. Select Delete next to the form/schedule/worksheet in the list and follow the instructions.

I just tried to call twice. Call answered but they hung up immediately.
Use code 8 for contributions made and returned in the same year.  Code P shows that the amount was contributed in the prior year and returned in the current year.   @Rejected Federal
