Hello, My wife works in DE and Lives in PA.  She got 2 W2s.  One for DE and one for PA.  They are identical except for entries 15,16 and 17 (State info and state wages).  I entered the DE W2 then added the PA info to it (DE and PA).   This is what I did:   In the PA interview "Updated" the "Income and Adjustments" section.  I arrived  at a page titled "Compensation Summary." There are two lines with the same employer with one having DE as state ID and the other PA.  I Edited the DE line.  Marked the "Entire Amount as non-taxable in PA".   I then went to the "Taxes & Credits/Taxes paid to other state" screen.   What should I enter in the following screens:   Under Gross Compensation: Delaware Amount (I assume this should be  Wages, tips, other comp)     My wife's Amount  (what should be in there?)   Under Tax Due to Delaware on income above: Delaware Amount  (What should be in there)     My wife's Amount  (What should be in there)     Also do I need to file taxes with PA and DE or only PA?   Thanks,

Please clarify your question by providing some additional information so we may better help you. Such as: What version of TurboTax are you using? Are you referring to Form 2210? If not, what form are you referring to?  Have you entered your information into TurboTax? Did you get an error message? What did the error message say?

It depends.  If I understand your question, you have the same amount included in income twice. Double the amount you received for the installment payments in 2024, is included on your tax return. If this is the case, first, in Step-by-Step, see if you can remove the Investment. Otherwise, you may need to go to Forms to remove the entry in one place or the other.    Any overrides may eliminate e-file as an option.

Thanks for the reply.  The  2023 transactions reported on the 2023 1099-B were all sales (no puts/options) and were all gains.  It does not look like this put/option transaction was reported in 2023. I couldn't tell from the 2024 1099-B whether there were in any purchases in early 2024 that would make this transaction a wash.  Also, there were no cost basis adjustments on the 1099-Bs. The 2024 1099-B shows the "gain/loss" for this transaction as 0.  The "wash" amount is the difference between the proceeds and cost.  So it looks like I can just delete this transaction. (Oddly, there were three other "zero proceeds/negative sales" transactions on my 2024 1099-B with a "date acquired of 7/30/2020, and a "date sold" in 12/2023, but Turbotax is not flagging these as errors as not being within the tax year.  Maybe it's because the 1099-B shows the proceeds for these transactions as 0, so Turbotax is just ignoring them.  For what it's worth, the number of shares in these transactions does not match up with the shares in the put/option transaction.)

Software for years earlier than 2021 is no longer available from TurboTax.   Any refunds for 2019 or 2020 have been forfeited, but if you owe tax due for those years you will also owe late filing penalties and interest, which has been adding up all along.    You can still get a refund for a 2021 return if you mail it by April 15, 2025 or that refund is also forfeited.   There might be other tax software somewhere for years earlier than 2021---so let "google" be your friend.        Each tax year has to be filed separately using the forms for the specific tax year.  They cannot be combined in any way--do not even put them in the same envelope when you mail them.  Software for past years is available back to 2021.  Any earlier years can only be prepared on paper forms by hand--and those refunds have been forfeited now.   The current online program can only be used for a 2024 return--no other year.  And if you did not file a timely 2023 return you will have trouble e-filing 2024.  When it asks for your 2023 AGI try using zero.  If zero does not work then you have to print, sign and mail 2024.       It might be better for you to seek local paid tax help in a situation when you are several years behind in filing your tax returns.  Do you even have all of the documents you will need to enter and show your income—like your W-2’s and any 1099’s?     You cannot change the tax year.   The current online program is for 2024 only.   Only a 2024 return can be prepared online and only a 2024 return can be e-filed.   Online preparation and e-filing for 2021, 2022, and  2023 is permanently closed. Note:  The desktop software you need to prepare the prior year return must be installed/downloaded to a full PC or Mac.  It cannot be used on a mobile device.   To file a return for a prior tax year  If you need to prepare a return for 2021, 2022, or 2023  you can purchase and download desktop software to do it, then print, sign,  and mail the return(s) https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products/ You may also want to explore purchasing the software from various retailers such as Amazon, Costco, Best Buy, Walmart, Sam’s, etc.   Remember to prepare your state return as well—if you live in a state that has a state income tax.   https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/state-taxes/contact-state-department-revenue/L9qVToi02_US_en_US?uid=m6e06um0   When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

I'm in the TT software and I have no idea how to file a 1040X.  What I've read is that the 1040X will be generated with the $$ difference from what I filed and was accepted by the IRS?  Is there some hidden tab that I don't know about?  When I login to the TT web site it only wants to walk me through filling out a new return.  Any help is greatly appreciated.   Thank you
