Yep! Thank you! I completely forgot to take capital gains payouts into account. That's exactly what it is.

I am not a happy camper. My turbo deluxe addition allowed me to do 2 state returns so far without trying to charge me $45. But NOW I am on my second kid's return and they are saying I owe $45 just to start the state portion. It's the same state Turbo Tax! Why are you trying to charge me $45 just to do the taxes?
I have entered the costs of goods, but it is not displaying when I hit enter.

If you used TurboTax last year you can get a previous year tax return: Sign in to your TurboTax account.  Make sure you're using the same TurboTax account (same user ID) as in previous years. There are two ways to get your prior-year returns: Select Documents from the menu,  Choose the tax year you want, and  select Download tax PDF. The second way is: On Tax home,  scroll down and select Your tax returns & documents.  Select the year you want and select Download/print return (PDF).
If I use the same turbo tax deluxe desktop software to file 2 different tax returns, does each person need to create their own intuit account?

If you have improvements to your rental, add that cost as a separate real estate asset for your Schedule E rental property. You wouldn't change the basis of an existing asset; you add a new one.   However, you may be able to write off these costs if you qualify for the Safe Harbor Election for Small Taxpayers. TurboTax will ask you about this election under the Assets/Depreciation section of your Rental Property. If you choose this election, you can expense up to $10,000 in costs that would otherwise be depreciated over a very long time.   @prerak007

If your mother was not past her RMD beginning date, then you do not have an RMD for this distribution.   If your mother was past her RMD beginning date, and she withdrew her RMD (or more) before she died, then you do not have an RMD for this distribution.     If your mother was past her RMD beginning date, and she did not withdraw her RMD before she died, then your RMD is 25% of what her RMD would have been.  Her RMD is calculated from IRS tables based on her age and the account balance on 12/31/2023.  The broker should be able to tell you what that was.

The above question was about a rental asking if they need to send Form 1099. Taxpayers with rental property are not necessarily obligated to issue Form 1099. Business owners are obligated.   The question was about NOT issuing Form 1099 and if they had needed to, they did not issue an "unnecessary" one.     1. No, it does not eliminate an expense. The expense is listed regardless if Form 1099 was issued or not. 2. Again, in this question, there is no Form 1099. None was issued. But regardless, the IRS gets a copy of Form 1099 and looks to see if the income is reported.  For example, if I issue you Form 1099-MISC or Form 1099-NEC reporting a 1,000 payment, the IRS will look at your tax return and make sure you are entering at least 1,000 business income. (Then you might report 600 in expenses so the profit would only end up being 400.)   Again, you are correct that when a business pays someone, that becomes a business deduction which lowers taxable income, but you don't NEED a tax form to claim the expense.

Error code 190 is specifically identifying an issue with state returns. Check to make sure you have any needed state returns installed for the year you are working on that generated the error.    You should encounter fewer issues with TurboTax if you only open the program for the year you are currently working on.   If you have already confirmed that you have the correct state(s) installed for the year that is causing the error, try exiting the program, restarting your computer, and then restarting TurboTax for just that year. If you still get an error message, see this help article and this one for instructions on how to contact TurboTax customer support depending on which product you are using.   @jpwilger
When you entered it on the 1099-R screen, it was added to your tax withheld. You can see the total on your 1040 page 2 line 25b.

I am a PA resident and my husband is a NH resident, but we have some joint income in PA, so he needs to file a non-resident PA return.  I requested the PA tax return after finishing the Federal forms, and it asked questions for my husband and prepared his non-resident return.  I cannot figure out how to get it to now ask me my questions in order to prepare a Resident return for me?  Do I have to buy PA (as in the free state download will only accomodate one taxpayer).  Thanks for your help!!!

Use the step-by-step to add or edit your 1099-B Check the box indicating you have other boxes on your 1099-B to enter, such as Basis.   IRS Says: "For non-covered securities ( BOX B or E) showing zero (wrong) basis, enter the correct basis yourself. Use code "B" and put -0- in col (g). "   In prior versions, I found, TurboTax will do that.   @amarkb7

Review is asking me to check my present employer checkbox on Form 40NR. It's asking this for all sources of income. All my income was made in-state. I've never filed out that form before (for 30 years). Finally it says that Federal/Alabama income must be entered on the Information Worksheet. I have no idea what that is. Help.
