Do you need to file a 2023 return, though? You can still file a 2023 return, but you have to file it by mail.

I filed my Federal return, and 30 minutes later it was rejected (via Turbo Tax). It said it wouldn't take my money until my claim was accepted. I checked my credit card and there is the $511, I owe Federal and the $12 Fee AS PENDING. NOW, I corrected the return and went to re submit and it asked me for my credit card info again? I decided to Print/Mail my return and mail a check, so not to be billed on my card 2x's. BUT, my question is Will the IRS cash my check and get the money from my Credit Card (that is still currently pending) ? I am thinking I will call my credit card and have it refused........................... Thank you. JS

Have you tried changing the rental days to 365 first? Or try any other number for both rental and personal days. Then report the true number of rental days (but not more than 365).

Here is how to get started with the amended tax return.
You can correct the college credit using the procedure at the bottom of this post.
Wait for the original return to be completely processed.
Here are steps to amend a current tax return.
TurboTax Online
On the Tax Home screen, scroll down to Your tax returns & documents and select the year you want to amend.
Select the Amend (change) return dropdown,
Then Amend using TurboTax Online.
If you're told to amend your return via TurboTax Desktop, follow the steps for TurboTax Desktop instead.
Continue through the screens,
Make the changes you need to make, and carefully answer the remaining questions to finish amending your return.
How do I amend my federal tax return for a prior year?
Select Tax Tools
You may have to minimize both the Federal and State options by clicking the Down Arrows on the Sidebar.
You will then clearly see Tax Tools
Click the arrow to up to see additional options
Once you can work on Tax Tools
On the drop-down select Tools
There will be 3 or 4 green boxes
Select Topics Search
Type the College credit name
This will bring up the entry section for the form
Continue through the interview.

It's April 8. I filed yesterday and printed the return. Estimated Tax Vouchers still have the watermark DO NOT FILE FORM NOT FINAL. Returns were accepted by the IRS almost immediately and tax due is scheduled to be withdrawn today, currently "pending" on my bank account. What I've read in this thread is that this watermark issue had been resolved a month or two ago. But apparently not. Is my only recourse to pay online? I'm OK with that, just haven't done it before.

Thank you. That's helpful. I added the $6500 to a traditional IRA in my 2023 amendment, so I'm not sure if Turbo Tax transmitted the 8606 in that amendment or if I need to manually. Just to confirm, I will enter the $6500 as basis for previous non deductible contributions prior to 12/31/2023 even though I contributed to it in early 2024 (for the 2023 tax year)?

I have a Schedule K-1 1041 for a Trust. All of the income is foreign with taxes paid. When entering all of the information for the K-1, I put B - Foreign taxes under "Enter Other Codes" and the corresponding amount under "Enter Amount." For the record B is the only code in Box 14. I then come to the page with the following: Total Applicable Losses Foreign Taxes Accrued Reduction in Taxes Available for Credit Assuming I leave Total Applicable Losses & Reduction in Taxes Available for Credit blank since I do not see these mentioned on my K-1. However, do I need to put an amount in Foreign Taxes Accrued? Is this the same amount as the Foreign Taxes Paid? I'm thinking that I should leave all three of these boxes blank. I notice that this makes a difference in an Excess Foreign Tax Credit which is something that's completely new to me. When adding the paid tax number to Foreign Taxes Accrued I get a significantly larger Excess Foreign Tax Credit that can only be carried back a year as opposed to a smaller Excess Foreign Tax Credit that can be applied to next year when leaving the Accrued amount box blank. Can someone please advise on the correct way to navigate this?

Thanks JohnB5677, but Intuit chatbot couldn't understand the question/issue and sent me to a Tax Accountant. I had to pay for if I wanted to continue. I don't need a Tax Accountant.

You should just enter that whatever you received was her RMD or that she was not required to take an RMD. Either would be fine on her final return.
