Using turbo tax h&b, to file electronically 2states, is there any deadline? Last year I was late to file and I was refused to file electronically and had to print and mail. I want to avoid the same this time. Any advice?
Thanks for this.   It looks like the personal use days number hadn't registered and TT was only registering the days rented. I reentered it and the problems seems to be solved.

If you want to make changes or add a document to a tax return that has already been filed and accepted by the taxing agency, you should follow these guidelines.    You must first wait until the initial return is completely processed. You will have to use the same TurboTax account that you used for the original tax return. Once you begin your amendment, you'll see your original return. The refund calculator will start new at $0 and only reflect the changes in the refund or tax due Only make changes to the areas of your return that need to be corrected. You have three years from the date you filed your return or two years after you paid the tax due (whichever is later) to file an amendment Select your product below and follow the instructions.  Amend TurboTax Online  Amend TurboTax CD/Download

Yes you need to save each return with a unique name.    Too late now but for next year......Turbo Tax saves the tax returns as 2024 Smith J Form 1040 Individual Tax Return.tax2024. So if you have two or more returns for people that have the same last name and first initial the second return will overwrite the first one. So you have to be sure to first save the returns with names completely different to keep them apart. Don't use the default name given by the program. You need to go to FILE - SAVE AS and give the return a unique name you can tell apart. At least add the full first name. You don't have to use or accept the name Turbo Tax gives it. I save all my returns with different names.   I didn't  think it should affect and overwrite the pdf file.   The tax files (and PDF files) should be in your Documents then in a Turbo Tax subfolder.
I filed jointly with my ex husband in 2023, all that information was under his username. I need to access it for my daughters FASA but not sure how since I don’t have the username or password.

You have multiple properties (schedule E worksheets) started in TurboTax.  Delete the Royalty Property from your return to remove the error on Schedule E.    Look for the Schedule E Wks related to the royalty property.  Don't delete your rental property.   In the example below, there are 2 rental properties and one erroneous royalty property that needs deleting.      How to delete forms in TurboTax Online   How to delete forms in TurboTax Desktop   You can search for rentals, then use the Jump to rentals link to be taken the summary page.
OMG thank you so much for the detailed answer!  This was exactly what I was looking for 🙂

Does the K-1 report income for Box 1? If not, you won't see the "material participation" question. Further, you must check "no" for active participation in order to see the "oil & gas property" question. Answering "Yes" to either the material participation question or the follow-up "oil & gas property" question will avoid the passive activity rules.   @vol2Smile

I submitted my taxes on TT desktop and it was accepted. Great. I then opened my son's 2023 form, which had "JR" in his filename (since he is a junior) and did his 2024 taxes. Submitted those without incident, and all was good. However, I just realized that my son's 2024 file did NOT have the "JR" in his filename (like it did in 2021, 2022, and 2023), meaning that my tax files were overwritten - and since I didn't notice this, the PDF file I made for my son also overwrote mine. WTF. What an annoying bug this is.    Do I have any recourse now? Is my only option to actually pay more money to request a copy from the IRS?    Why on earth does TurboTax not retain any revisions of files created along the way? Consider that a feature request.

Just as I thought. TurboTax was incorrect on not letting me report my Indiana income (see my previous posts). I got a letter from Indiana IRS on 04-13-24 (two days before filing date) saying my TurboTax filed return was wrong and I owe them money. I ended up hurrying up and filing an emended return using MANUAL FORMS. Mailed them out to Indianapolis on 04-14-24. And now, USPS tracking says my mail never got there !!! I am beyond being upset with TurboTax / Intuit. Software has errors. Not only that my Indiana return was NOT correct, now I wonder if I got all of my money from federal return as well. NEVER again TurboTax for me (and anyone I know). Not only that, I demand a refund for the software: $45.99 + $25 for Indiana filing = $71. By the way, amazon return expired on 01-31-25, way before I could ever even test the software. What a scam !

Click Tax Tools (in the black bar on the left of your screen) and then click select Print Center. Click Print, save or preview this year's return TurboTax CD/Download  Go into Forms Mode by clicking on the Forms icon in the top right of the blue bar.   In the Forms in My Return list on the left, click Filing Inst.  [It's usually toward the bottom of the list.]  The form will appear on the right side of the screen.
