I am trustee for my parent's trust since their death. Their home was titled in their revocable trust (now irrevocable sub-trusts for the benefit of myself and my brother).  I have allowed my brother to live there. Since by law I am technically the owner as trustee, my insurance agent told me that in order to get homeowners insurance, the house is considered trust business property, and I would need a rental agreement between the trust and my brother. So, I created a lease for him but only charge him $1/year. I pay the property taxes, water bill, insurance, and repairs from my brother's sub-trust. Since the rental income is only $1/year, can I deduct the expenses that I mentioned on Schedule E which reduces the amount of income that is reported as being distributed to my brother or should I just count all of these expenses as distribution for the benefit of my brother since they are all originating from trust income?
Yes, start at the beginning of this thread and read the entire thread (especially my communication with Intuit rep) where everything is explained.

There was an update to this last week.    If you are using desktop software you may need to do a manual update. Try clearing your Cache and Cookies and then try this link instructions.   If you are using the online software, Clear Cache and Cookies.    Not all instances have been resolved for form 5695. If you are claiming a credit for an external door, you will need to wait until March 13 and try filing again.

@Me173 wrote: Pretty sure if Intuit peruses these comments, they’ll find plenty of “voices of the customer” feedback that will makes it very clear how customers feel about this feature.  I agree but then the decision-makers don't peruse these comments (or this forum) and seemingly decide what to include (or not) in the software based on some sort of cost-benefit analysis. In short, if an insufficient number of users want or need a particular feature, that feature had better not consume a lot of their resources.   Also, their desktop tax prep software is a relatively small percentage of their total business revenue.
Thanks, Dave!  You were too fast for me 🙂

I need to file Form 5329 along with a request for a waiver.  I filled it out on TT, but when I go to actually file my return electronically, TT is not sending it to the IRS.  Does this mean that I need to file my return by mail, or is there a workaround?  I had to initiate the 5329 because I forgot to pay RMD, which is why I need to fill out the form and the waiver.   Should I just use snail mail for Federal and State returns (on the positive side, I will save $25 in filing fees, less postage)?

I figured it out...Most of the time when you type in the full number (with cents included) TurboTax takes care of the rounding.  In this instance it didn't adjust the amount entered to a whole number.  So I had to round to whole numbers that made it so box 2 + box 3 equaled box 1.

Sometimes, the software may receive a rounding error, causing a difference in the totals.  Since the IRS only accepts round numbers, it causes a mismatch in the totals. Try entering in the following manner to see if this will clear the error.   Enter $1349 in the first box $408 in the second box $941 in the third box. There is second workround that has been successful for some users.   Because the error is caused by rounding mismatches, users have fixed it by changing one of the boxes by $0.01 in either direction. Example: Change Box 3 from 940.34 → 940.33 or 940.35. This forces TurboTax to recalculate and accept the form..
