The underpayment penalty amount Turbo Tax calculates on your 1040 or state is only an estimate. Turbo Tax can not figure it accurately because they don't know exactly when the IRS or state will get your return and tax due payment. It's very common and normal and expected for the IRS or state to bill you for more or send you a refund. If Turbo Tax calculates a penalty on 1040 line 38…..You might be able to eliminate it or at least reduce it. You can go to Federal Taxes tab or Personal tab, under Other Tax Situations and select Start by the Underpayment Penalties. You will answer a series of questions that may reduce or eliminate the penalty. Or you can elect to have the IRS figure the penalty for you. It's form 2210. It's under Federal or Personal (for Home & Business Desktop) Other Tax Situations Additional Tax Payments Underpayment Penalties - Click the Start or update button

Thank you! Something odd is happening and I'm not sure how to go about it. In the "My Info" tab, there is a question "what was your state of residence on Dec 31 2025." If I am filing federal taxes as a full year resident, do I put Indiana or foreign country? If I put foreign country, the Indiana return will automatically go to partial resident, and it'll say "Based on your federal return, we've selected the following Indiana residency status for you: part-year." However, when I check everything and go back to the overview, where turbotax lists the type of return, it is listed as nonresident. Am I missing something here?

Yes, you are correct. For a single gift where one or both spouses is/are the legal owner(s) of the asset, you and your spouse should only fill out the top half of Schedule A, Part 1 on your respective Forms 709.
You would only fill out the bottom part if:
You made a gift from your separate account.
Your spouse made a different gift from her separate account.
You want to split both.

If software development was easy, everyone would be doing it. I'm just trying to give the Engineers grace because I live that world daily. the government will regulate your codebase and set strict guidelines and impossible dates to hit. and then take their time when approvals or final orders are to be given. Then they will still expect you to make the date. I'm just trying to shed some light on why sometimes a deadline might not make it. I'm pretty sure you would like a working product or feature when it's released and not just a haphazardly put together POS just so a deadline could be met.

Many people have the money to pay property tax held in an escrow account with their mortgage lender and the lender then takes care of paying the property tax from that account. The amount is then shown on the 1098 that the lender sends you.
If you have been paying some other way, then go to
Federal>Deductions and Credits>Your Home>Property Taxes to enter any property tax you paid in 2025.

You may have worked more then one copy last year. This can happen if you saved a copy before completing the return. On File Explorer, check last years files for more than one copy (not pdf copies). Note the dates last modified (saved). Re-open TurboTax. At the page where it says to select last years return, don't choose the one displayed, but choose browse and select the latest one. If tht one doesn't work, try the other one.

It should. It’s probably not ready yet. There will be an update later. Same for Online Premium.
