There are no immediate tax deductions for contributing to a Roth IRA.  The "break" is that when you retire, you can withdraw the money and the earnings tax-free.  That is in contrast to a traditional IRA where you get an immediate tax deduction on contributions, but all the money you withdraw when you retire, including earnings, is taxable.

TurboTax transfers data from your federal return to your state return. Before you begin troubleshooting your state return, go back through your federal return and make sure everything is correct.   After you review your federal return, select the State Taxes tab and review the state section. Pay close attention to the information, especially if you have made changes to your federal return. There might be new sections that need to be completed.  Troubleshooting common federal to state transfer issues   If your problem continues, you can try the following: Go out of your program and go back in. We created our LLC in AZ when my husband and I were not married.  At the time, our accountants recommended electing S-Corp status.  Which we did.  But now we are looking to return back to LLC tax classification.  In the meantime, my husband and I are now married and since AZ is a Community Property state, can be considered a disregarded entity as an LLC.   How do I do this?   I was looking at Form 8832 and sending a statement to the IRS.  But when I am filling out Form 8832, I think it is looking for only 1 owner and not both of us.  Thank you!

Some have received a message from Charles Schwab saying downloads would be enabled on Feb 27th.   If you received a "Success" message but your data hasn't appeared in TurboTax, it is likely due to recent browser security updates regarding Local Network Access.   To fix this you need to allow TurboTax to securely retrieve your data through your browser settings: Locate the View Site Information icon (the "tune" or "lock" icon) on the far left of your address bar, just before the URL. Find Local Network Access in the dropdown menu. Toggle the switch to ON. Refresh the page and attempt your import again. If permissions aren't the issue, one of the following factors may be at play: Brokerage Delays: While most forms arrive by January 31, many brokerages delay Consolidated 1099s (like the 1099-B) until mid-February due to complex reporting requirements. Availability: Your brokerage must specifically "release" the import file to TurboTax. If it isn’t ready, we recommend checking back. Connection Blocks: Active VPNs or aggressive Anti-Virus software can occasionally block the import feature between your bank and TurboTax. Try disabling them temporarily or switching to a different browser. Helpful TurboTax Articles: What if I can't import my 1099? How can I fix my 1099 import issue? How do I import my 1099s? There are 3 different credits.  The residential clean energy credit is 30% with no limit, and includes geothermal heat pumps, which is the part of the instructions you posted.   There is a separate credit for qualified energy efficiency improvements, which is for doors, windows, and insulation systems.  The third credit is for qualified energy property.  This covers heat pumps, furnace, hot water heaters and air conditioners.  The combined cap for the second and third credit is $1200, except that the limit on heat pumps and heat pump hot water heaters is $2000.   So first, make sure your copy of Turbotax has the latest updates (if it is the version installed on your own computer).  Then second, make sure you entered the credit in the correct place (the third credit for energy property and not somewhere else.)   On my copy of Turbotax the credit calculates correctly when entered in the right place.

Once your return is filed, TurboTax has no control over the processing or the timing when the IRS releases your refund.    The IRS Where's My Refund site will not take into account the 5 days early, but if you signed up for the 5 Day Early product, you should receive your refund deposited 5 days prior to the date indicated by the IRS, assuming all conditions are met.   For more information click on the link below 5 Days Early Option   If you don't get your deposit 5 days early, there is a few reasons why that might happen.   Your refund was offset or differed from their estimated refund amount, bringing the refund amount below the minimum threshold or above the maximum. What is a refund offset? Your bank wouldn't accept RTP (Real Time Payments) or Same Day ACH deposits, preventing Intuit from depositing your refund 5 days ahead of when the IRS would have deposited your refund. The IRS didn't give Intuit 5 or more days of notice in advance. This stopped Intuit from meeting the 5 days early expectations. If TurboTax is unable to deliver the refund 5 days early, your order will be canceled and you won't be charged the 5-Day Early fee. You will receive a follow-up email with a refund and timing update, and if any cancellation is applicable.

I'm using TurboTax for my 2025 return preparation.  As others have stated, the print is too small on the TurboTax program.  I did read the responses about the text icon's on the lower right of the screen to change font size, but that, I believe, is for Windows.  I'm using the Mac version, and there are no icon's anywhere that I can see that will allow me to change the font size.

For years, I've been an investor in a relative's real estate business, which is primarily flipping homes. The original agreement was a straight note where I am paid 10% annually per the principle amount invested, based on when homes are sold. For years, I received a 1099-INT which is taxable as normal income. I am typically in the 22% tax bracket. For 2025, I received a 1099-NEC, which is new to me. The amount earned was close to $13k. After some reading, it appears that I pay self-employment tax, plus federal tax, plus state tax. My initial calculations are the 1099-NEC would be taxed upwards of 30-35%. Questions for this forum - What tax credit might I have missed with 1099-NEC? Would it be better to request a 1099-INT from my relative's business?

Do you mean the 5- digit PIN you created last year to file electronically?    To E-file your tax return, you will need EITHER last year's self-created 5-digit PIN, or last year's AGI (adjusted gross income). Your 5-digit PIN isn't saved anywhere; in this case you can use you AGI instead.    Your 2024 AGI is located within your prior-year tax documents Form 1040, Line 11.   How do I find last year's AGI?

If you received a W-2 or 1099 form without a Federal EIN, then you would need to contact the issuer to get their EIN or obtain a corrected form. They do have a Federal EIN and it should be on the form you received, but you would need to get it from them.     If this is not from a W-2 or 1099 form please respond with more information on what type of income you are entering and how it is being reported to you?

You should review your fees in your TurboTax account to find out what type of fee you are being charged. Sometimes you start with the Free Edition (which is typically a simple form 1040), but as you enter more complex forms or sections you might be required to upgrade depending on your individual situation.  To locate the fees section, view the link below   How do I review my fees in TurboTax Online?    To see why are you being charged or to remove any non-desirable fees, click on the link below  Why am I being charged for TurboTax Free Edition?

Yes and no. Since you did not actually do any work with Uber, you would not have actively participated, nor did you start or stop the work in 2025. So that is technically correct.     However, it looks like you are entering these as business instead of hobby like Amy suggested above.  If you enter these as hobby, they will be reported and you will not need to include a Schedule C on your return which you should not do since you yourself were not self employed. To fix this, you can first try to go back and select edit next to the 1099-NEC's, then walk through and select hobby for both 1099-NEC's.  Then you can delete the Schedule C.  Also double check your 1099-K to be sure that is listed as other instead of self-employment income.   To delete the Schedule C   From the left rail menu in TurboTax Online, select Tax Tools (You may have to scroll down on the left rail menu.) On the drop-down select Tools On the Pop-Up menu titled “Tools Center,” select Delete a Form  This will show all of the forms in your return  Scroll down to the form you want to delete  Select the Form  Click on Delete.  If that does not get rid of the Schedule C, you will need to delete both 1099-NEC's then go back and delete the Schedule C.  Follow that with clearing cache and cookies, then go back to re-enter the 1099-NEC's and select hobby for both of them
