Where do we enter the out of pocket portion of college tuition and books paid directly to school and not covered by loan?

If this is your first time entering your school information, here are the steps:

In TurboTax online,

  • Sign in to your account, select Pick up where you left off
  • At the right upper corner, in the search box, type in "1098t" and Enter
  • Select Jump to 1098t
  • On the screen, Now Let's gather XYZ's Additional Education Expenses
  • Follow prompts
  • Next screen, Your Education Expenses Summary, select Edit
  • Next screen Here's Your Education Summary, under Tuition, select Edit to enter tuition information

Please also note that, for the portion of tuition or book expenses you pay with your student loan, you can still claim them as you are required to pay back in the future.  It is treated as if you actually pay.

Where do we enter the out of pocket portion of college tuition and books paid directly to school and not covered by loan?

To enter the correct tuition amount paid out of pocket, you can adjust the information on the Form 1098-T replica on the screen:  ( add the out of the pocket amount to box 2)

In TurboTax online,

  • Sign in to your account, select Pick up where you left off
  • At the right upper corner, in the search box, type in "1098t" and Enter
  • Select Jump to 1098t
  • Follow prompts
  • On the screen, Type in the info from your 1098-T, check the box This is not what," Student' Name paid to school"
  • Enter the actual amount you paid

Where do we enter the out of pocket portion of college tuition and books paid directly to school and not covered by loan?

I am 65 years old and live in USA for two years .I need to file my tax credit .what should I do?

Where do we enter the out of pocket portion of college tuition and books paid directly to school and not covered by loan?

@Azgh You have posted your question on an old thread that is not even related to your issue.  Please start your own NEW thread and explain your issue.  I think you mean you need to file a tax return--but you have not explained if you are a resident alien or a non-resident alien, or if you have a Social Security number, an ITIN, etc.  Return to the user forum and try going to Taxes>Get Your Taxes Done and then click on the blue button near the top of the page that says "Ask a Question."  Then please post your question there, and do not post any personal information--just the question and some information regarding your immigration status, source of income, etc.  At this point it is not clear if you should even be using TurboTax or a different method to prepare a tax return.
