Currently there is a known issue when using TurboTax Online that is related to the program asking you to double-click to link to Schedule C.
Please review the article below and use the link in the article to enter your email address to be notified once this is resolved:
TurboTax: Why Am I Unable to Link my 1099-NEC?
Also you can review the information below for possible steps to solve the issue.
Income reported on Form 1099-NEC must be reported on Schedule C, the program is trying to link these two forms together to be sure that it is reported correctly and on the right form.
Revisit the section where you entered the Form 1099-NEC if you entered it on its own and delete that entry, by following these steps:
Open TurboTax.
On the top right corner of TurboTax online screen, click on Search (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax locate the search box in the upper right corner).
Type in “1099-NEC” (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax, click Find),
Click on “Jump to 1099-NEC”
Click on the blue “Jump to 1099-NEC” link
This will bring you a summary of all Form 1099-NEC that you have entered. Click Delete or the trash can icon next to each one.
Next, you will re-enter the Form 1099-NEC as part of the Schedule C so that the income is reported directly as part of your Business Income and Expenses and within the correct form and section of your return.
Follow these steps to go to the Schedule C section of your return:
On the top right corner of TurboTax online screen, click on Search (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax locate the search box in the upper right corner).
Type in “schedule c” (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax, click Find).
Click on “Jump to schedule c”.
Click on the blue “Jump to schedule c” link
If you already have created a Schedule C in your return, click on edit and go to the section to Add Income. This is where you will re-enter the Form 1099-NEC.
If you do not already have a Schedule C in your return, follow the prompts and enter the information about your work/business for which you received the Form 1099-NEC. Then continue through that section to Add Income and enter the Form 1099-NEC along with any additional income you received for that business.
Once you have completed this, the error should be eliminated.
I don't think the previous response really provides any useful information. That's because you really didn't provide enough information for the reader to work with.
Why are you trying to "get past" SCH C? Are you self-employed? Maybe you are not self-employed, but you received a 1099-MISC with an amount paid to you in box 3, or 1099-NEC with an amount reported to you in box 1? If so, then as far as the IRS is concerned, that income was paid to you as self-employment income. However, there are exceptions and the TTX program can handle those exceptions just fine. If you'll provide more details, then myself or another can give you more useful and helpful information on how to deal with it, as well as how to delete the SCH C if it turns out you really don't need to file that form.
Hi, thank you for the questions. I worked for DoorDash as a side job for 4 months in 2020, so I’m considered self-employed from that. I was sent a 1099-NEC form from DoorDash, and I’ve already typed in the information from that on a different section of the taxes and tried typing it in again on the form it’s asking me to review, but none of the information I provide seems to be what is needed, so I’m unsure how to proceed.
You can enter a 1099NEC multiple places. You need to delete all that you have entered. Go to the business section of the program, enter your business information as a Door Dash person. See Where do I enter Schedule C?
Once you get past the profile, it will ask about income. Select the NEC there and enter the information as part of the business return. It is the first option.
In addition, see IRS Gig Economy Tax Center for more deductions.
I have been trying these steps for 1 day now, it does not get pass the Schedule C thing. Please help.
Are you entering an IRS form 1099-NEC? The IRS presumes that the income from these forms will be self-employment income reported on IRS form 1040 Schedule C.
What is the nature of the income that you are reporting? Maybe someone here will be able to help you.
