You said I mailed my tax return To the IRS address more than five months ago. I received confirmation of receipt in June. But why is it taking so long To receive a refund

Turbo Tax doesn't know if or when you actually mailed it. Or did you efile it? Refunds are taking a lot longer this year. Especially for mailed returns. The IRS might not have even opened your mailed return yet. Did you actually print and mail it? Turbo Tax doesn't mail it for you. Did you get a tracking number from the post office when you mailed it?

Does your account say "Ready to mail?"   TurboTax does not mail it for you.    If you are filing by mail you have to print it, sign it in ink and mail it yourself.  Did you do that?   TurboTax never knows if you mailed your tax return---the software has no way to know if you mailed it.

If you did not mail it, then either switch to e-file or print it now and mail it.   Mailed returns are taking a very long time to be processed, so if you are just now mailing it you can expect it to take at least a few months to be processed.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses

The IRS is running behind due to COVID, CARES Act, stimulus and a huge amount of mailed tax returns being filed this year.

There are about 17 million 2019 and 2020 unprocessed tax returns and they "hope" to have 2019 caught up this summer - meaning they are about a year behind.

TurboTax only gives the general IRS (most returns are processed within 21 days) date. The actual date is known only by the IRS. TurboTax also does not adjust the general date for anything on the tax return. TurboTax receives no feedback from the IRS after filing.

The IRS says most refunds will be issued within 21 days - some faster, some longer.
(Most means more than half so many take longer - MUCH longer)

Each tax return is evaluated on it's own merits. There is no first-in-first-out. Two similar tax return submitted at the same time can have totally different processing times based on IRS criteria for examining tax returns that the IRS does not divulge.

Some returns will be held for ID verification or other verification. The IRS will send a letter if they require more information to process your tax return.
