Why is Turbotax such a mess this year? Phone support is next to impossible to get and when I do, the answer is not effective. It will take a miracle for me to use Turbotax next year.
Following advice our return has been rejected by the IRS 4 times so far based on the respnse to the question. "What was your AGI for 2020? My wife and I filed jointly last year. This year we are filing jointly and I am doing the work. The first time I attempted to file I was asked what my AGI was, I responded providing the number from last years 1040-SR line 11. That was rejected and Turbotax's correction procedure wanted my wife's AGI from line 11. I provided the number from line 11 and was rejected again, this time Turbotax wanted my AGI. I called the help phone number and eventually was connected to a human that I could barely understand due to a noisy phone line. He advised to go to the IRS site and get a transcript of last years return which I did and the value shown there is what I have been entering. This morning I was advised to just put a zero in in that spot. This makes no sense to me but I went ahead and did it and am now awaitng the rejection that I suspect is coming.

If it was rejected for AGI—-be aware that many 2020 returns took so long for the IRS to process that your 2020 AGI might not be in the IRS system. Try using zero instead.
If filing with zero is rejected then file again but select the option that you did not file last year. The IRS does not see that question and it will allow you to e-file with no AGI question.

If that does not work and you still cannot e-file, then print, sign, and mail your tax return.
I don't think that the IRS accepted my return last year because I was unsuccessful in verifying my identity through their ID Verify program although they are not talking to me about it. I have asked my Congress person to get involved with the IRS. I now see this ID Verify program as something that I did not request and do not want and is a useless program done in the dark of night. It should be thoroughly looked at by IRS oversight and nullified. Did the IRS rehire Lois Lerner?
I am not impressed with Intuit/Turbo Taxes response to my problem nor the way their automated phone answering service operates. It would be so nice to have a responsible human being from The Intuit organization speak with me. I am still waiting.
@snydermitch1 If the IRS asked you to verify your identity last year and you did not follow though that is why you did not get your refund. The IRS is trying to prevent fraud. They have the right to require you to verify your identity before they issue a tax refund to you. It is also not at all unusual for states to request identity verification.
I HAVE TO VERIFY MY IDENTITY
Sometimes the IRS chooses returns randomly to request verification of identity and sometimes there is something on the return that triggers the request. No matter why the IRS has required you to verify your identity, you need to follow their instructions in order to receive your refund. If you do not verify your identity you will not get your refund.

if you initiated an account with ID.me, that has nothing to do with your tax return filing.
If you did not get an ACCEPTED message, and you did not mail in your 2020 tax return,
you didn't file.
