Why did I get a letter from the state saying I paid no taxes in 2019? What do I do?

Filed with Turbo tax and now the state says I owe them because I paid NO taxes in 2019- I am supposed to get a refund. Every pay stub shows contributions and my W-2's show I paid into my state taxes. How do I fix this?! Turbo tax "help" isn't any helping, just takes me in circles or tells me I haven't purchased current products so it can't help me. The audit links and other information are all regarding rejected returns or other issues related only to the IRS.

The state wants to garnish my wages and won't let me file for 2020! I need to fix this!

Better take a second look at your 2019 state return and see if it shows tax due.   Your only proof that you paid the state is your own bank or credit card record.   The state cannot be paid from a federal refund--and many people get confused about that.

Print out your 2019 returns and see if you owed the state.   Or did they change something on your state return that makes you owe?

You have to access your own account and/or  print it for yourself using exactly the same account and user ID that you used when you prepared the return.

Many people have multiple TT accounts and forget how to access them.  Log out of the account you are in now.

Or did you use the desktop version of TurboTax?  If so, the files are on your own hard drive or any backup device you used like a flash drive.

I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM THE IRS/STATE

TurboTax does not receive any information from the IRS or your state after your return was filed, so no one at TurboTax knows about a letter you received from the IRS or the state.

AUDIT SUPPORT

TurboTax has a special phone number for help with IRS/state tax letters, which will be easier than going through regular Customer Support.   At the page below, click on the blue button that says "Get Help from TurboTax Support".  Then it will ask you what tax year is your letter.  Then it will ask you what the letter concerns. Then it will show you the phone number during posted business hours.

Why did I get a letter from the state saying I paid no taxes in 2019? What do I do?

The state is saying I didn't have taxes withdrawn all year from my paychecks. My pay records and W-2's show they withdrew taxes every pay period. I did not owe when I filed my return, I was due a refund- and they accepted it that way. Later I received a letter saying that I never paid taxes in all of 2019 and now owe the state. I need to know how to rectify this.

*Multiple companies calculated a refund due for 2019, and I do not itemize, so there is no reason why the state should have changed anything at all in the calculations, nevermind claim that I hadn't contributed in the first place.
