I haven't heard. I don't think it's posted yet. Last year Turbo Tax started taking efiles on Jan 7 but the IRS didn't start accepting them until Feb 12. There is this FAQ Calendar page but it hasn't been updated for 2021 yet. Keep checking back.
The IRS will not start processing any returns until the end of January at the earliest so you have time to wait for the W-2 form from your employer as you are required to do. Even if you file early the IRS will not approve your refund until they can match up the W-2 info you enter on the tax return with the info sent from the employer so as you can see filing early will not get anything any faster in fact you could even get delayed. Also anyone with CTC or EIC on the returns will not start processing until mid to late February ... this also goes for anyone claiming a stimulus credit... those returns could be delayed again this year for weeks.
You still need your 2021 W-2's and any 1099's that will show your income for 2021. Those will not be issued until late or the end of January.
The tax forms are not ready yet. Your return must be ready to file which will not happen until 1/6 at the earliest. Go to the REVIEW tab to see which forms in your return are incomplete and the estimated dates they will be ready (dates always subject to change) and sign up for the email alerts if you wish.
.
Being in such a hurry to file and get a refund is never a good idea---it leads to filing incorrectly without all of your information and to waiting months to amend mistakes that you should not have made in the first place. Be patient and file correctly when all of your information is in order and the tax forms are ready.
Being a rush to file rarely works to your advantage, and might even cause your refund to be delayed. And if you are rushing to file you are more likely to make mistakes which will have you back in the forum in a few weeks asking how to amend your return. Be advised that it has been taking the IRS over six months to process amended returns so if you mess up that is what you will have to look forward to.
And…..if you are trying to rush because you get earned income credit or the child tax credit——the PATH act means you cannot get your refund until the end of February at the earliest—so filing early will not get you an early refund.
