When I check my refund status I get this message... We cannot provide any information about your refund

I do not get it................. According to my TurboTax (TT) dashboard, I already got my tax refund on 3/5/21. Will that didn't happen. According to the IRS Wheres My Refund (WMR) they cannot provide any information. The WMR used to be real clear on the status process of your refund.  I spoke to a TurboTax specialist and he told me that it was accepted and out of their hands. I honestly expected a little more than that since I've been a customer for over 20 years and the amount of time spent to just to get to talk to a person. You call the IRS and you either get disconnect because "They are Busy' or you get put through the automated phone loop.

I completed my 2020 Taxes with TurboTax on 2/2/2021and paid $45. I only got a text message from TT saying they were accepted on 2/12/2021.

So, what I (we) want to know is what is the problem when TT has showed accepted for over 21 days and IRS WMR shows cannot provide any info?

BTW,  I know several people that filed after I did and have already spent there refund.

I was able to get my own answers after contacting the tax advisor line. When the 1st stimulus round of stimulus checks came out you had the option to file with or without filing taxes confirmation. Instead I chose the option to send it to me "rapidly" option (i forgot how it was phrased but something like that)

My tax prep did not pick up on this and didn't think about it when filing the 2019 taxes. When filing the tax prep should have did an amendment and filed but instead filed my taxes over and over and over to see if it would push through the system but the system kept rejecting it.

I called a free tax line advisor who advised me the below

File a amended tax for your prior year taxes (2019) and include the 2nd stimulus 600 as a recovery rebate and it should be okay. The recovery rebate is your missing stimulus payment and it will be paid out alongside your taxes to give you the full refund plus stimulus. I still have not gotten my $1400 stimulus but my 2020 taxes were accepted and being processed. Due to the amendment the 2019 taxes will take around 16+ weeks to correct. Not the best news but at least it is being worked on.

I wrote this because I care about YOU yes you reading the comments and feeling frustrated and depressed because you need financial assistance but you cannot get your taxes back. Try a tax advisor line. I called between 6-7 pm EST and was connected within 5 minutes. No hang ups no call backs and the advisor asked to verify my call back number in the event we are disconnected then they would call me back.

I just need my flipping money but I guess at least I know it's on it's way.

Again to summarize

Contact a tax advisor hotline, they are free and there are tons of them out there. Notify them of your issue and they should be able to walk you through the process or if easier have your tax prep on the line with you and you both call the advisor hotline.

I hope everyone gets their money. The world needs healing and small things like this helps.

Yes, you are correct, there is an issue as of late with the IRS's tools not working as expected.  TurboTax receives its information from the IRS and this is the reason that we haven't been able to provide information to you as we normally would.  As customers continue to have questions regarding the Economic Impact Payments (EIP), we’re continuing to work with the IRS for guidance. We’re updating our customer and expert-facing articles with information as soon as we get it.  At the moment here is the most updated information that we have about refunds:

What if my IRS refund is taking longer than 21 days?

When I check my refund status I get this message... We cannot provide any information about your refund

Does it show it was received?

According to this IRS update as of April 16th:

The IRS is now opening mail within normal timeframes. The IRS has also made significant progress in processing prior year returns. As of April 9, 2021, we had 1.5 million individual tax returns received prior to 2021 in the processing pipeline. Including current year returns, as of April 9, 2021, we had 16.2 million unprocessed individual returns in the pipeline. Unprocessed returns include those requiring correction to the Recovery Rebate Credit amount or validation of 2019 income used to figure the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Advance Child Tax Credit (ACTC). This work does not require us to correspond with taxpayers but does require special handling by an IRS employee so, in these instances, it is taking the IRS more than 21 days to issue any related refund. If, as a result, a correction is made to any RRC, EITC or ACTC claimed on the return, the IRS will send taxpayers an explanation. Taxpayers are encouraged to continue to check Where’s My Refund? for their personalized refund status and can review Tax Season Refund Frequently Asked Questions.

How long you may have to wait: The IRS understands the importance of timely processing of tax returns and refund issuance. We are processing returns received over the summer and fall in 2020 due to the extended July 15, 2020 tax filing due date. While the majority of 2019 refund returns have been processed, in some cases, we are processing tax returns that were mailed with a payment even though payment associated with these returns have been processed by the IRS. However, we are rerouting tax returns and taxpayer correspondence from locations that are behind to locations where more staff is available, and we are taking other actions to minimize any delays. Tax returns are opened in the order received. As the return is processed, it may be delayed because it has a mistake including errors concerning the Recovery Rebate Credit, is missing information, or there is suspected identity theft or fraud. If we can fix it without contacting you, we will. If we need more information or need you to verify that it was you who sent the tax return, we will write you a letter. The resolution of these issues depends on how quickly and accurately you respond, and the ability of IRS staff trained and working under social distancing requirements to complete the processing of your return.

What you should do: If you filed electronically and received an acknowledgement, you do not need to take any further action other than promptly responding to any requests for information. If you filed on paper, check Where’s my refund? If it tells you we have received your return or are processing or reviewing it, we are processing your return, but it may be under review. We’re working hard to get through the backlog. Please don’t file a second tax return or contact the IRS about the status of your return.

E-filing your 2020 tax return: To e-file you will need to enter your AGI from your tax year 2019 tax return.  If your 2019 return has not yet been processed, you may enter $ 0 (zero) as your prior year Adjusted Gross Income. If you used the Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info Here tool last year to register for an Economic Impact Payment, enter “$1” as your prior year AGI. See Claiming the Recovery Rebate Credit if you aren’t required to file a tax return.

When I check my refund status I get this message... We cannot provide any information about your refund

Well I did my taxes with H&R block, back on March 19,2021. It was received and accepted according to H&R block app and on the IRS website. But a week after H&R block wasn't updating and the IRS website and phone said they couldn't provide any information at this time. Now, I did my 2019 &2020 at the same time. My 2019 came back and my state refund for 2020. Still the IRS website and phone plus H&R block hasn't updated yet. I'm been waiting for my 2020 federal tax refund. I tried numerous of ways to get in contact the IRS with no luck. And how we have all these IRS buildings but don't have nothing to with federal taxes, only state taxes?

My Wife and I mailed ours in mid-February, and still have not received ours yet.  My wife also filed an ITIN Renewal form with our taxes, that was approved and sent back to us already. So I don't think they know what is going on as First in, First out is concerned. It would be nice if the IRS would get their stuff together! We need that money to help pay the lawyer.

You will just have to be patient.

The IRS is seriously behind in processing 2020 tax returns.  This is due to many factors, such as the pandemic, completing processing of millions of 2019 tax returns, stimulus payments, unemployment compensation exclusion tax refunds., changes in the tax code by Congress in the middle of the 2020 tax season and the like.

Millions of taxpayers have not yet received there federal tax refunds.

Go to this IRS website for operational status - https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-operations-during-covid-19-mission-critical-functions-continue

As of July 17, 2021, we had 15.6 million unprocessed individual returns. Unprocessed individual returns include tax year 2020 returns such as those requiring correction to the Recovery Rebate Credit amount or validation of 2019 income used to figure the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC). This work does not require us to correspond with taxpayers but does require special handling by an IRS employee so, in these instances, it is taking the IRS more than 21 days to issue any related refund and in some cases this work could take 90 to 120 days.

What you should do: In most instances, no further action is needed but you may check Where’s my refund or you can view your account. If you filed electronically and received an acknowledgement, you do not need to take any further action other than promptly responding to any requests for information. If you filed on paper, check Where’s my refund? If it tells you we have received your return or are processing or reviewing it, we are processing your return, but it may be under review. We’re working hard to get through the backlog. Please don’t file a second tax return or contact the IRS about the status of your return.
