When completing my return; I am getting an error that says a box is empty and needs to be filled. It is empty on my W2. How do I fix this so I can file?

Which box ?

Several  states do not have a state income tax.  So these states will not show up in certain drop down lists.   Leave boxes 15, 16, and 17 blank when you enter a W-2 for these states.

Alaska, Florida, Nevada, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington and Wyoming

IF box 15 is blank (or is a state without an income tax), you leave boxes 15, 16, 17 all blank.

Same for 18,19,20 if  box 20 is empty...and again, unless $$ are in box 19, then there has to be a locality associated with those $$

You may need to remove the W-2 and re-enter it again. Please see the TurboTax FAQ here for assistance in deleting that W-2 from your tax return. You can also manually enter the W-2 with the information in this TurboTax FAQ here.

It’s box 20. But on my W2 it is empty… what do I put in there to allow me to file?

Make sure boxes 18, 19 & 20 are all BLANK, empty, no spaces.

Make sure box 19 is blank too.   If you have something in box 19 the software wants you to put an entry for box 20.   If you had no local tax withheld then 19 and 20 should both be blank.

Right-----boxes 18, 19 and 20.   If you paid no local tax then those boxes should all be blank.
