My husband and I filed jointly, as he have since getting married in 2015. I have never had any issues filling or getting my returns in the past. Our W-2s were both uploaded straight over to Turbotax. So, there should be no typos or mistakes. It has almost been 2 months now. We have both been furloughed from work due to the pandemic since March 23, 2020 and aren't returning until at least June 1. We are becoming VERY behind on our bills, including several that are fairly serious: rent, utilities and my husband's medication, which he needs to live. (He has Crohn's disease and has ended up in the hospital without his medicine.) Also, because our return is still processing, we cannot get our stimulus either. Is there ANY WAY to find out what the hold up is? When to expect our money? Or ANYTHING we can do to speed this along. I have used your service for years and have always loved and recommended it. However, this is ridiculous! It is beyond a nuisance once it threatens us being able to put food on our table and our future in general. There should be someone who could find out what is going on on our behalf. We purchased all of the insurance, etc. when we filed. I have tried calling the IRS myself and have checked online every day to no avail. There are no live people to speak with no matter what number I have called. PLEASE HELP!!!!

Waiting is frustrating—refunds are taking longer in many cases. These are not normal times. It is not possible for TurboTax to speed up the IRS for you. It seems to be taking longer than usual for them to process returns. They are short staffed; and they are processing millions of tax returns at the same time that they have been burdened with the task of processing millions of stimulus checks. The IRS is not taking calls right now.

TurboTax gives you an estimated date for receiving your refund based on a 21 day average from your date of acceptance, but it can take longer. Many refunds are taking longer during the pandemic.
Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control. TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.
You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount (line 20 of your Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:

If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing.

At the following IRS website, find the USA map and click on your state, and it will give you the number of your area's IRS Taxpayer Advocate.
