Schedule C, Part IV Line 46

My joint tax return was accepted, but I noticed an error on Line 46 of Schedule C (Part IV). The question asks if me (or my spouse) has another vehicle available for personal use.

When Turbo Tax asked the question, it appeared to be asking if my spouse has another vehicle. He does not. I have a vehicle and he has one.

When I printed my return out, I see it asks it plainly "Do you or your spouse have another vehicle available for personal use?"

Since the Schedule C is for his side work, will we need to amend our taxes to fix that question? If so, what form do we use? I don't see anywhere on the standard amendment form where we can fix this and I don't want to be audited.

No, you don't need to amend your income tax return. It is important to answer all question if it applies to you, because credits and deduction can be denied if question/s pertaining to that credit or deduction was incorrectly answered. It may also trigger a red flag with the IRS. This is just an example total mileage driven entered was 20,000 and your personal mileage was none., answered no to the question "If another vehicle was available for personal use",  If that was the case, don't do anything, wait until you receive a letter from the IRS, if any, then you can explain the error that was done.

The mileage usage is deductible as business expense, if standard mileage is used rather than actual expenses. You must record personal and business mileage either using a  mileage book or mobile application.

Okay thanks, Joanna!

Yes, I'm definitely always very honest when filling out the forms, it's just that the way it was presented in Turbo Tax made it seem like they were asking if my husband ever uses my car for his personal use. In our situation, he uses his vehicle to drive for Instacart as well as for personal use and to drive to his primary job. I use my own car for my personal use, so I thought the answer to the question would be "no".

When I printed out the tax return and was reading through the forms before I put them away, I noticed the question is presented on the Schedule C more straightforward (not the TurboTax app). It simply asks if there's another vehicle that either me OR my spouse uses for personal use.

I'm worried because I always answer everything super straightforward.

The portion where it asks the total mileage driven using that vehicle for the year and then the actual mileage driven for the self employment job, I entered the exact amount driven for that job (Instacart) on line 44 (a).
