How do I e-file my return after choosing to print and mail?

Something must've changed since last year. Last year it looks like there was a file option, and nothing this year.

How do I e-file my return after choosing to print and mail?

Same problem here.  No file button.

How do I e-file my return after choosing to print and mail?

Upset is beyond how I feel. I always have a problem how people with limited funds are treated, especially since I've reached those ranks. All things should work for all people. I DO NOT WANT to MAIL my return. I have been e-filing since there was an e-file. I was once a paid tax preparer myself! I feel that not having live support is ridiculous here. Who said the computer programmer knew what s/he was doing? Computers ALWAYS need humans, and using human support should not cost a non-paying customer. FRUSTRATED, I am for sure!! I WANT to e-file my return! I received an email encouraging me to do so. I responded because I thought someone had done something different.

How do I e-file my return after choosing to print and mail?

When I go to my account, I am taken to a page, with this at the top:  "Way to go, Andra! You filed your 2018 taxes." and that is the HOME page. I am unable to do more. Then, when I go to my account, I learn "It looks like you need PLUS benefits to instantly access your TurboTax returns
Pro tip: the IRS charges $50 for a copy and takes up to 75 days"

What is up with this?!? I start out as a FREE customer...and, this!!  I DON'T EVEN PAY TAXES; just retrieving withholding taxes from an annuity!!  Whew!! What am I to do? ALL I  want from you at this time is some HUMAN CARING about a FREE CUSTOMER!!  I would be afraid to pay for a service here at this juncture!!

Same here.  No way to go back and e`file.  This is F'd up!!!!

How do I e-file my return after choosing to print and mail?

Yep same problem here. No file option, and all the troubleshooting pages either don't match Turbotax Online or just don't show the File button to reset it. Super annoyed.

I got a Turbo Tax  Rep on the phone and she helped me. They have to do it on their end. It worked fine after that. No problem.

How do I e-file my return after choosing to print and mail?

you can choose add a state....it will place you back in return....you dont actually have to add a state

How do I e-file my return after choosing to print and mail?

This is the way!

I didn't see any option to select File, and my state doesn't have any taxes, so Turbo tax still had an option to add a state.

If you have that option, choose that and make sure you click File/ Your Info on the side panel that will load for a couple of seconds.

I did that and was able to e-File my return. You can also make edits to your info etc if required.

How do I e-file my return after choosing to print and mail?

If you printed your taxes to mail them in and went all the way through the File section, when you sign in to TurboTax Online you'll see the Way to go! You filed your 2021 taxes and you won't see a way to change to e-filing. As long as you haven't already mailed your 2021 paper return, you can switch to the e-filing method (through April 18, 2022).  However, some states now require e-filing, which means the federal and state must be e-filed together.   Click that link for instructions.  @cruskal

How do I e-file my return after choosing to print and mail?

Hello!

Thanks for sharing the thread! I did not see it before, that could have helped 🙂

In my previous session when I downloaded the return, I could go back / go to the File option to switch to e-File, I think this could be a potential bug in the web application.

When I re-logged in, I did not have an option to choose File anymore.

When I chose to add state taxes (My state doesn't have any state taxes, so my previous return did not have them), I saw an option to select "File", that's where I switched to e-file, but this is a workaround. If its by design, its not intuitive :(

You are not really adding a state and it doesn't matter if you have a state return or not.   ''Adding a state'' just allows you to get back to the File section, which is the only way to switch to E-file after choosing to file by mail.    @cruskal
