I did my 2021 taxes late, on Turbo Tax, because of an issue I had the prior year which had not been resolved yet. I finished it, and left it here on Turbo Tax. I had not paid for it so had not printed it off yet or mailed it but it was done. Now it's gone. There must be a way I can retrieve the data, rather than starting over from scratch and redoing it. I did purchase the desktop version, but I need the data that was already put in to Turbo Tax. IS there any way to retrieve it?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
You will be able to access the return you started by using the exact same account and user ID that you used when you started it. But you can no longer use online software for any further changes.
Start a 2022 return and enter some personal information so that the menu on the left opens up and allows you to access your 2021 return.
Online tax preparation and e-filing for 2021returns is now permanently closed.
Now it is too late to use online software or to e-file. If you have any changes/corrections at all to make to your 2021 return, you now have to complete it using desktop software, which you must download to a full PC or Mac (not to a mobile device). Then you need to print, sign and mail it.
If you already paid for your online software you can ask customer support for a download of the desktop software.

If you are getting a refund, there is no penalty for filing late. If you owe tax due, then file and pay the amount due as shown on the Form 1040, but expect a bill later from the IRS for the penalty and interest you will owe. Only the IRS will calculate this—TurboTax will not calculate it.
When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.
Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses. Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
I know that it's too late to efile. It was too late when I did it in 2022. I am asking, how do I get back the data from the 2021 return that I finished and left here in 2022? Now when I log in, it automatically goes to 2022 and all the data I put in, and the tax return that was already finished, is not there any longer. It is somewhere. Intuit absolutely has the data. How do I get to it? I purchased the desktop version and can finish and print it off there to mail it in. However, even after purchasing the desktop version, the finished return is not there.
You have to access your own account and/or print it for yourself using exactly the same account and user ID that you used when you prepared the return.
Start a 2022 return online and enter some personal information so that the menu on the left opens up and lets you access your past year returns.
Many people have multiple TT accounts and forget how to access them. Log out of the account you are in now.

Or did you use the desktop version of TurboTax? If so, the files are on your own hard drive or any backup device you used like a flash drive.

Yes! It's there now. A week or two ago when I tried it was not there and the tax specialist I spoke with said it was not saved because I had not paid for it yet. I have paid for the desk top version now. Is there a way to transfer all the data over to the desktop version?
Is it not transferring because it was a different version of Turbo Tax? I believe it was home and business. Do you think I can transfer it if I purchase rhe update?
