The IRS just began to accept/reject returns yesterday on January 23. Have patience as millions of returns go into the system. Watch your emails.
When you e-file your federal return you will receive two emails from TurboTax. The first one will say that your return was submitted. The second email will tell you if your federal return was accepted or rejected. If you e-filed a state return, there will be a third email to tell you if the state accepted or rejected your state return.
I have been filing taxes electronically for a long time. It has never taken more than 2 hours for my return to be accepted. So I would appreciate it if TurboTax would find someone else to try to rip off, I really can't afford this crap this year.
I am having the same issue. I filed Saturday Jan 21st and I’m still showing pending. I’m concerned because it’s never taken this long for my refund to be accepted.
@AngelicaOdhams14 You e-filed early. The IRS just began to accept returns on January 23. Millions of e-files are working their way into the system. Have patience and watch your emails.

I filed my taxes Friday morning, the 20th and it has been pending ever since and no one will give me any answers or even look into it. Not only that, but all day yesterday, TurboTax sent me at least a dozen emails saying to sign in and get my final review done so I could sign and file. I signed in and they said I filed on Friday and they are pending.

I asked for some real insight, not for you to copy and paste the same thing not once but twice. I received the email saying my efile was submitted successfully last Friday but on the IRS website, when I sign in to my account, not only can the wheres my refund tool not find my return. My actual tax account says there is no record of a return having been filed. Why do I feel like TurboTax has found some new way to screw us out of our refunds. I was approved for a refund advan e too which is probably why you guys are dragging your feet. If I dont get an honest answer today, I am calling the IRS, or better yet, I will go downtown to their office at the Federal building.
@fanningam70 I’m behind you on that! Checked mine the past 2 days no record of my return at all. I also got approved for the advance and I’ve seen so many people being approved for it and getting it within 24 hours. I’ve never went through anything like this before and it has my anxiety skyrocketed right now. Has never taken this long and I’ve been filing with them for years.
why has my return pending for 2 days now
There could be a couple of reasons why you might be experiencing a delay:
1. First, the status might be pending for security reasons. This may be a sign that someone is trying to use your identity to file a tax return. This can take up to 72 hours, after which your return will then be forwarded to the IRS, or if applicable, rejected. If rejected, you can then correct the rejection issue and resubmit. Please see this FAQ for reference.
2. Secondly, there could be a delay if your return has various refundable credits, such as the Earned Income Credit, Investment Credit, Energy Credits, or Business Credits. You may need to wait a few more days and check your filing status again. Please see this FAQ for additional information.
Note: Both instances may be applicable. That is, you could have a hold for security reasons first. And additionally for verification of the refundable credits in your return. In this case, delays might extend beyond 72 hours.
Additionally, if you have Form 5695 and claiming joint occupancy, the IRS will not be accepting these returns until 3/16/25. You can see this on this IRS site. The language you see below is from Row 39 of the Tax Year 2024 spreadsheet.
Taxpayers claiming Joint Occupancy on Form 5695 will have to file via paper if filing their return before the Form 5695 schema is updated in mid-March. This temporary limitation should only impact a subsection of Form 5695 filers. For a preview of the TY24 draft form and instructions for Form 5695, please see the Draft tax forms on IRS.gov at https://www.irs.gov/draft-tax-forms. Submission of Forms 5695 that do not claim Joint Occupancy may be e-filed at the start of Processing Year 2025
