Are you using a TurboTax or ProSeries product?
Yes I am using Turbo Tax online.
I have the same question.
The IRS started this tax season pretty far behind. That kind of delay flows down to the states. So the IRS finalizes their forms and then the states finalize their forms. And then the TurboTax programmers get the forms and have to integrate them into the TurboTax program. Then there is testing to make sure that the newly added forms work with the program properly. Then they are rolled out to the public. As inconvenient as the waiting is, it will still get your tax return processed faster than paper filing it.
Here is the timeline for the release of state forms on TurboTax.
Do you know when the IT40-X and/or Indiana amendment form will be finalized?
I checked the list of Indiana forms that are available, and the amended form IT 40-X is not on the list. What does that mean?
Which version of Turbo Tax are you using @nancyd64 ?
I also have this question. I am using TurboTax Premier Desktop, not ProSeries and need to file an amended return for both Federal and Indiana. When I try to complete my amended return, I get the following Error response:
"Form IT-40: _ The Indiana tax return can't be amended at this time. Do not file the amended return until calculations are finalized in the upcoming release of ProSeries/Indiana."
As others have stated, it does not show this form at all on the list of available forms that one of the experts (RobertB4444) kindly attached to his response.
I'm in the exact same situation. I've been waiting a week to file my amended return. Since the form is not listed, is it something TurboTax needs to fix in the program?
I was finally successful at amending my federal and Indiana taxes using Turbotax Deluxe online. I was surprised it worked this time, because the notice again popped up about the ProSeries/Indiana needing to be released, but I just kept clicking continue, and the program finished the amendment process. The state tax forms, however, are not filed electronically and need to be mailed to Indiana Dept. of Revenue. Also, the amended form is not an IT-40X but is a regular form IT-40 with the amended box checked.
Thank you!!
Great! Thanks, this helped me get my amended return filed. Yeah my research also showed that starting in 2022 you can amend your Indiana return using IT-40 with the box checked.

Turbo tax fills all the info in for you on the PDF, so all you have to do is print it out, and attach any required documents and payment.
But the question is this...will my amended Indiana return be correct? The error states "Do not file the amended return until calculations are finalized in the upcoming release of ProSeries/Indiana."
Will the amended return be calculated properly if I just continue and ignore this error? I certainly don't want to have to amend my amended return.
It seems to me that someone at TurboTax needs to give a definite answer to this question and/or advise WHEN the "upcoming release of ProSeries/Indiana" will become available. I do not want to wait until April 18th to send my amended return.
I am in the same boat. Turbo Tax IN automatically put my income in both mine and my spouse's income for IN and therefore doubled it! It stated that I owed over $1,200 this year when I made the same amount last year and received a refund every single year prior to that. Unfortunately I believed the program and filed my return only to double check it line by line after it was too late. I spent hours on the phone with Turbo Tax and the reps telling me I did something wrong and there is nothing wrong with their program. Tell me how the system automatically flows the information from your FED return and its my fault it is wrong?!
I called the IN DOR and asked them in form IT-40PNR with the X placed in the amendment box is ok to file for an amendment and the rep stated it was ok. I will have to pay $1,200 to get it all back and then some. I have never had a problem with Turbo Tax till this year and I'm beyond FRUSTRATED with this situation!
