What does "Your tax return is still being processed. A refund date will be provided when available." Exactly mean?

Write a certified letter stating your case if you already have your transcript, also call and ask what they are showing. If all clear. Certified letter "if after 21 days or like me from 2019 March still showing the 152 topic, and nothing makes sense, this actually might help them sort out mishaps. But still no telling 🤷 just advice. Good Luck! I was told I had a W2 listed twice on phone call. Wasn't on the transcript. Then told to mail again.. and Again.. would take another 3 or 4 months??? After that. I originally Efiled! So yeah two years later No $$$, still Waiting... 💀

152 is not necessarily a bad code, it means it's still processing. There's even some still processing from 2019. It can be frustrating to wait so long but 152 code is better than 151.. hopefully it all means we'll be guaranteed a refund in 2021. There's alot of factors holding everything up. So if it's been passed 12 weeks from filing. Time to Call, if you've already called and been waiting, months after maybe write the IRS a Letter ( just stating your case) or that you need to be informed as your transcript isn't showing reasons for being held up. They may simply want you to Mail it in, which takes longer. I would just follow thier advice. Hope that helps, Good Luck!

God be praised, I finally got the update and it is approved and scheduled. I filed it on 2/22/2021. I called IRS last week to check if they need anything from me. The rep on the phone said no nothing on your end just wait it out, and today morning the status bar shows up with the new update.

How did you reach a live person?

Some help on reaching a live person at the IRS  @Sboston2

Here is a link to a thread that details how to go through the automated phone prompts to reach a live representative.  The steps may save you some frustration.

You can also search for a local IRS office in your area.  It may be easier to contact a local representative than using the main phone number.    You can use the ''make an appointment'' option even if you have no intention of going to the office, but that may get you a live person on the phone that can provide you some info.   They have access to the same information.

Although the IRS has processed and issued most refunds from e-filed returns around 21 days, due to COVID, CARES Act, stimulus, American Rescue Plan Act and a huge amount of early tax returns being filed this year, some of the returns will require more time to review.

This wait is so stressful.  My husband has cancer which metastasized to his bones via his spine. His ability to work ended about 4 years ago.  Most of his 401k is gone.  I, spend a lot of time depressed because I have to borrow from Peter to pay Paul. This refund would have paid off loans I had to get on my own credit which was not the best. I'm feeling very anxious about this and would like to get our refund so we no I, can feel a since of relief and enjoy what time we have left together.  But for now I'm just feeling 😕

If you have a hardship, you should talk to the IRS Taxpayer Advocate Service to get information for you or sometimes even tweak things.  They are especially prone to help if you have an economic hardship, or if there have been continued delays with lack of info from the IRS.    At the following IRS website, find the USA map and click on your state, and it will give you the number of your IRS Taxpayer Advocate.    If the Taxpayer Advocate can't/won't help you, ask them to transfer you to an an IRS agent.  A couple of users reported that at least for them, that was a backdoor route to the IRS.

What does "Your tax return is still being processed. A refund date will be provided when available." Exactly mean?

@Rowan22    21 days is not a promise.   It is only an average amount of time for tax returns to be processed during normal times.  These are not normal times----many refunds have been delayed by the complications caused by the pandemic.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/personalfinance/where-is-my-damn-irs-tax-refund-new-answers-emerge-a...

TurboTax gives you an estimated date for receiving your refund based on a 21 day average from your date of acceptance, but it can take longer.  “21 days”  is not a promise from TurboTax or the IRS.   Many refunds are taking longer during the pandemic.  The IRS is backlogged —-they are still trying to process millions of 2019 returns; they received millions of e-filed on the day they opened for 2020 returns, and now they are burdened with sending out another round of stimulus checks.

Some delays are resulting from incorrect amounts that folks entered for stimulus checks they received.   Many people have been confused by the recovery rebate credit and completed it incorrectly.  The IRS may delay your refund while they cross-check to see what you received.  Some refunds are delayed because of the tax law changes that went into effect recently.   If your return has unemployment or the premium tax credit on it, that may be delaying it.

First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:

Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control.  TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.

You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 34of your 2020 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:

To track your state refund:

If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing.

What does "Your tax return is still being processed. A refund date will be provided when available." Exactly mean?

TurboTax aka Intuit is another profit driven company that cares very little about its customers.  Has TurboTax made an effort to let new users know that their e-filed returns are potentially subject to lengthy delays? Most likely the answer is no. TurboTax and all software entities that enable electronic filling of tax returns have a relationship with the IRS.  You just do not wake up overnight and decide I am going to submit millions of electronic returns to the IRS. Its in the IRS interest to have more software companies that enable electronic filling of tax returns. E-filed returns reduces the cost of the IRS processing paper returns. If its past 21 days since you have filed and been accepted, call the IRS or contact the Tax Advocate Service. Additionally if you have a hardship reach out to your local congressional representatives. Your local congressional representatives may have more impact in helping you get your refunds or information per your case with the IRS.
