It is usually within 5 days from the date of mailing will you receive the check. However, you can contact SBTPG as they should be able to tell you why the check was issued.

The bank returned my refund
@Mayawashington wrote:The bank returned my refund
If your bank refused a direct deposit of your Federal refund, it will go back to whomever sent the refund, which depends on how you paid any TurboTax fees.
If you had no TurboTax fees, or if you paid them by credit/debit card, a refused deposit would go back to the IRS, who would issue you a check in the mail in about 3 weeks or so.
On the other hand, if you had any TurboTax fees that you chose to pay out of your Federal refund, that process is handled by an intermediary company SBTPG, who receives the deposit from the IRS, subtracts the fees, then sends the funds to your bank in a second direct deposit. If that deposit from SBTPG's bank fails, it goes back to SBTPG, who would be the one issuing a paper check in the mail. In less common situations, SBTPG might send it back to the IRS instead to issue the check.
If you DID choose to pay fees out of your Federal refund, you can check on it at SBTPG's refund lookup tool.
To log in, choose the "For taxpayers" portal at:
https://www.sbtpg.com/
If needed, SBTPG has a phone contact page at the following link. It also shows their business hours. Even when they are closed, you may be able to get automated info, or you can log in as above.
https://help.sbtpg.com/hc/en-us/articles/230084587-Contact-Information
If you did NOT use that service to pay your TurboTax fees (i.e., if you paid the TurboTax fees upfront with credit/debit card), then the info above about SBTPG should not apply to you.
The same exact thing is happening to me and they keep hanging up on me
When i called turbotax about it they recommended calling early in the morning or late in the afternoon since it's peak season rn
How long will it take the bank sent back my refund because it was my name first not my husbands
We cannot give you an exact date as to when the IRS will re-issue your refund check. They might be able to give you a better timeline if you reach out to the IRS directly. To do this, please see the instructions below:
IRS: 800-829-1040
Hours: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM, local time
Monday-Friday
Or, you can visit your local IRS Office.
Has my paper check mailed out?
@CHRDTAY No one at TurboTax knows if a check has been mailed to you. TurboTax is not updated after you file your tax return. If you are expecting a mailed check, it will come via first class mail without tracking, so watch your mail box.
My return from 2020 was sent to my bank on 2/24/2022. I had since closed my account because the branch near me closed. So obviously it was sent back (2/28/22 with trace number) to SBTPG.
think I can contact them? Nope! They just say “it was sent” on an automated system. I haven’t ever been able to speak to an actual person at SBTPG. I’m getting pissed. It’s been well over 2 years and I still haven’t gotten my return back.
I have sent multiple emails to SBTPG and NOTHING.
It's been three and one half months that you are delayed by closing your account.
The rest of the time was due to the IRS.
What number did you call for TPG because it keeps saying there not open also what is irs form 3911?
Your tax refund was not sent to TurboTax. TurboTax does not handle your refund at all.
Santa Barbara Tax Products Group, LLC (SBTPG) is the bank that handles the Refund Processing Service when you choose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your refund. This option also has an additional charge from the bank that processes the transaction.
You can contact them SBTPG, toll-free, at 1-877-908-7228 or go to their secure website www.sbtpg.com

If you need to trace a payment that the IRS says has been issued to you, mail or fax a completed IRS Form 3911, Taxpayer Statement Regarding Refund.
