Solar credit and refund delays?

Hi everyone - OP here!

My 10 weeks was up on Saturday 4/20 so I called first thing on Monday 4/22. The agent I spoke with said that the errors department should have reviewed my return by now but it was showing that no one even looked at it!!!! 

She put in a referral to them and now they have another 30 days to send correspondence or issue my refund. 

I had already filed a SAMS and the response I got was that they were aware of the issue and are working to resolve it. A tax advocate would not take my case because I was in the 10-week wait and now they still won't because I was given another time-frame.

Frustrated is an understatement.

I'm in the same boat with the solar credits.. filed and accepted on Feb. 12th after they denied my first attempt on Feb. 8th due to the solar credit form being incorrect.  That should have been my first clue what a nightmare this tax season was going to be.  I have ALWAYS received my refund within the 21 day time frame.  This is also not my first time claiming solar, this is actually my 2nd rollover, 3rd time total.  My 10 week wait was up on Monday.  Just got off the phone with them this morning pushing my 30 day referral, so fingers crossed I receive my refund by May 24th.

Has anyone claiming solar credits ACTUALLY received their refund yet??

I'm curious, do you know if that is 45 business days or total days?

Currently on day 74 of no refund and no correspondence.  

IRS accepted my return on February 10th and we also filed for the solar credit.

I have filed a SAMS report, I have called numerous times to the IRS and they tell me absolutely nothing helpful.  Was supposed to have gotten a phone call from a manager sometime in the last 2 days, and, you guessed it, no phone call.

This is beyond frustrating.  Almost wish I hadn't bought the solar panels because this is turning into a nightmare when the salesman told me it was an easy process.

What number and prompts did you use to get through to talk with someone? I used the information provided here but I kept getting hung up on while on hold.

Call the IRS: [phone number removed] hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Monday-Friday
When calling the IRS do NOT choose the first option re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.
So after first choosing your language, then do NOT choose Option 1 (refund info). Choose option 2 for "personal income tax" instead.
Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".
Then press 3 "for all other questions."
Then press 2 "for all other questions."
- When it asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, don't enter anything.
- After it asks twice, you will get another menu.

Press 2 for personal or individual tax questions.
Then press 3 for all other inquiries
It should then transfer you to an agent.

Update:

Called IRS again.  Lady told me that there wasn't a tax return "filed" under my name.

Argued with her that there has to be because I've been checking the "where's my refund" religiously for 2 1/2 months.  She finally relented that it wasn't "approved" instead of filed.

She told me it was in the Errors Department.  I'm assuming this is because of the solar credit.

I don't know what they did this year, but this is the second house I have put solar panels on and the first time I had no issue getting my return back and I had a carryover the following year that also processed without issue. Almost seems like they don't have the money to pay out the credits and are stalling. *I also keep not getting through to a person and just get "try again later". My 10 week hold fell of 4/22.

I am having the same issue. I filed February 2, 2004 and my return was accepted. I am so glad to hear that it is not just mine. 

I hope they fix this issue soon! I have never had to wait this long for my Federal return.

I also think it seems that the funding isn’t there either to issue the credits. Both times I called, the representative seemed nervous and to be reading a response that was eventually given to them. 

I am also starting to wonder if this issue is only with people who filed through turbo tax. I’ve searched and haven’t found any other complaints anywhere else.

It seems to be other companies besides TurboTax - theres a giant thread on Reddit regarding this!

I also don't understand how zero correspondence about this issue has come out. How do we get this on the news????

I followed your instructions and the first time, it immediately disconnected me.  The second time, I was on hold for 40 minutes.  It sounded like someone picked up twice, put me back on hold, picked up again and then disconnected.  I am going to scream.  Our taxes were filed and accepted on 2/11.  We also have the solar tax credit and got our state return quickly.  I am so OVER IT.

I’ve read over the last few days that many people are having difficulties with being disconnected even though having previous success reaching a representative. I did just read one commenter who said that she told the representative that she was recording the phone call after being hung up so many times. She seemed to receive some help after telling the rep that. I also haven’t had success reaching a rep the last two days. I was on hold for over 50 minutes one day. Unfortunately, it seems that we will be waiting a couple months yet at the earliest.
