I bought the download Turbotax for Mac and am filing by mail. When I print the return, there are no filing instructions for the federal return. How do I get this?

I have this same problem with the 2019 CD version of TurboTax for Mac, the instructions for filing by mail and the Federal Tax Return Summary are not printing for the Federal return.  They do print for the state return.

Unfortunately, the answer given by @TerukoL is for TurboTax Online, and the instructions in the linked article do not resolve printing this instructions / summary page for TurboTax CD Mac.

Please provide the correct procedure for printing the Federal Filing Instructions and Tax Return Summary page from TurboTax CD Mac.

@JakailaLO, your answer is partially correct, but does not actually address the issue.

The article you linked is the standard procedure to print a preview copy from the CD version, and that procedure does print (which I was not having any difficulty finding), but the printed forms still did not have the Federal mail-in instructions summary page.  The forms printed without that summary sheet.

Unfortunately, this does not solve the fundamental software defect of NOT printing the filing instructions and summary page for the Federal filing.

I believe this has to do with first selecting electronic filing and starting that process then reverting to mail-in.  Which is what I did.

Fundamentally, there is a software defect which causes there to be no mail-in summary page printed after the e-file process user interaction has reached a certain point.  After that, going back and re-selecting the print for mailing option does not clear the e-file flag and no Fed summary is generated.

Unfortunately, there is no way to submit a support ticket reporting this bug beyond posting on this social forum.

Can you submit a bug report for us to the TurboTax programming team to have this repaired?  Clearly, I'm not the only one who found this bug.

Unfortunately, this is an issue that is sporadic and continual with Turbo tax as this is the third or fourth year in a row that I can also report that the federal filing instructions are not printing from the Mac CD version, but only on certain returns.  

I have called to report the bug in past years, but I give up.  It prints on one return if it has a state return as well, but for the one I do for you 80 year old parents using the software who only have a federal return due to living in Florida, there are not any federal filing instructions.

Luckily I am a past IRS helpline employee and know where to look to find the correct address BUT this is a bug that has never been and I fear never will be fixed.  I have to feel sorry for the folks that are lost without knowing where there old fashioned printed tax return is supposed to be sent....no help from Turbotax obviously.

I had the same issue with the 2020 download Turbotax for Mac. I found that the if you select the "Print" in the "File" menu at the top of the window, you can print the filing instruction and summary page for federal return.

It is possible you may just not have clicked to include government and TurboTax worksheets. To view the summary page, in your open return, go to Tax Tools in the left-hand navigation and click on Tools. You'll see "View Tax Summary under "Other helpful links" (in the window that populates). Then you can just click on that link to take you to the Tax Summary page. I have also listed full instructions below.

Be sure your return has been accepted by the IRS before going back in to your return.

Here is how to print the summary sheet:

You need to download your tax return using Print Center and choose the option for all worksheets.

1. Sign onto your online account and land on the Tax Home web page

2. Scroll down and click on Add a state. 

3. This will take you back to the 2021 online tax return.

4. Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the online program screen. 

5. Then click on Print Center. 

6. Then click on Print, save or preview this year's return.  Choose the option Include government and TurboTax worksheets

Online account, what online account?  I bought a CD so I wouldn't have to put my personal info online.  If it goes there automatically I will have to consider another product next year.

The latest update did allow the printing of the tax summary and info sheet, so perhaps the bug is again fixed for this year on most returns.  Just seems to affect us Mac users and doesn't ever seem to go away, same thing every year.

If you are missing your Summary Page and need to just print this form, here's how to do it without printing out your whole return.

Mac

1. Open your return in TurboTax.
2. From the File menu, choose Print.
3. In the pop-up, choose Selected Forms from the drop-down.
4. Check the form(s) you want to print and select Continue.
5. Make any other desired adjustments and then print.
