I am filing by mail, paid my fee, printed but NOT MAILED my copies. I just noticed I made an error on one of my income entries. How can I go back and make that change?

I would need to do an amended return in TurboTax, again, print it, but mail everything but form 1040X (since you never actually mailed original one), same for your state. mail everything but X form.

Do not Amend!  If you haven't efiled or mailed your return you can go back in and change anything you want.  Do not click on Amend!

Click on Add a State to let you back into your return.

  1. From Tax Home (the first screen you see after you sign in), scroll down to Your tax returns & documents. You may have to select Show to open the drop down.
  2. Select 2020, and then select Add a State (you're not actually adding a state, this is just the workaround).

Hi VolvoGirl,

( I did not know you can just go and change after you paid to Turbotax for filling, if its possible, its great!)  But why amending is not the way? There is no difference in the end result, as long as form 1040X is not mailed to IRS, you still get your correct return.
