I am still working on a 1099-NEC after 5 days. QEF did not generate a Copy A to print/save, it only shows Copy B, Copy 1 and Copy C. It does generate the Form 1096 for State filing. Is that right?
I'm under the impression that form 1096 is only if you mail it to the IRS, it works like a cover sheet, and we do not need to file with the state because the IRS will transfer the information. So... my question is, what will be "E-FILE NOW" if it doesn't show or at least I can't print Copy A? Help please!!
I have already taken Copy 2 from the IRS site because TT did not generate this form. Now I'm stuck again! I'm thinking that will be quicker if I buy the red forms and mail it, lol
Where is COPY A of my Forms 1099 and W-2?
The Quick Employer Forms only supports e-filing of the forms with the IRS and Social Security Administration. Copy A of the Form 1099 and W-2 are only used for e-filing and are not provided for printing.

Thanks I will know better for next year
We don't want efile a handful of Form 1099-NEC. The question is, how can we use Turbo Tax to print the red IRS copy that I bought from an office supply company?
Short answer is you cannot use the TT program to populate the red forms you bought ... there is no "data only" print option. Instead you should be using the QEF option and efile the forms and just print the copies for you to keep and the ones to mail to the contractors. There is no need to use the forms you bought at all ... if you have not opened the package take it back to the store.
You can't. You have to hand write or type the info on the blank red forms.
If you use Quick Employer Forms you have to efile them. If you use the Windows Desktop program and do them on your computer you have to mail them to the IRS yourself on the red forms. I use to go to the library and use the typewriter to type on them. Wonder if libraries still have typewriters?
Why don't you want to efile them to the IRS?
Critter-3 and VolvoGirl above are both correct.
Do you know what information to enter and in what boxes on the red 1096 Annual Summary and Transmittal of US Information Returns?
If so, you may be able to run the forms through your printer and print the data on them using Word or Excel. Then the completed form could be mailed.

I have tried logging in numerous times but do not see an option for "Tax Home"
I am trying to e-file the 1099-Misc and 1096. I have the CD version. Did not download.
Thanks
Jeannie
There is no "tax home" in the downloaded version ...
WINDOWS
In the Window's Home & Business or Business Desktop program to Prepare W2s or 1099s, go to Start a New Return or File-New Return.
Then on the next screen it asks What would you like to do?
Check the circle that says Prepare W-2s and 1099s for my employees or contractors. Then that will expand and give you a choice to prepare them online or on your computer.
If you select to do them online using the Quick Employer Forms the forms are efiled to the IRS. You then print the copies to give out to your people and print copies for yourself. See this for more info…..

If you select to do them on your computer you are responsible to mail the forms to the IRS.
MAC
If you are using the Mac Home & Business CD/Download program you can only prepare W2s and 1099s using QEF-Quick Employer Forms. At the bottom of the Welcome to Turbo Tax screen it should say Create 1099s for Contractors and W2s for Employees.
Tax Home is only in the Online version. You have the Desktop program. Are you on Windows or Mac? Did you prepare them yet?
In the Mac Home & Business Desktop version you use the Quick Employer Forms. The forms are efiled to the IRS and you print and mail them to your contractors and employees. At the bottom of the Welcome to Turbo Tax screen it should say Create 1099s for Contractors and W2s for Employees.
In the Windows Home & Business Desktop program or the separate Business program you can prepare W2 & 1099 on your computer using the built in W2/1099 Reporter or online using the Quick Employer Forms. If you do them on your computer you have to mail the forms to the IRS yourself.
Thank you. Finally able to do the e-filing. Was not intuitive.
