How do I get a copy of my installment agreement from the IRS?

Cool button. It doesn't do what you say it does.

Then you will need to contact the IRS and speak directly to an agent since the website did not give you what you needed.

Call the IRS: 1-800-829-1040 hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Monday-Friday
When calling the IRS do NOT choose the first option re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.
So after first choosing your language, then do NOT choose Option 1 (refund info). Choose option 2 for "personal income tax" instead.
Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".
Then press 3 "for all other questions."
Then press 2 "for all other questions."
- When it asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, don't enter anything.
- After it asks twice, you will get another menu.

Press 2 for personal or individual tax questions.
Then press 4 for all other inquiries
It should then transfer you to an agent.

If you had applied for a payment plan and the IRS accepts it then they will mail you a copy of the plan and/or you should be able to access it online ...   once you click on then apply/revise plan button (https://sa.www4.irs.gov/opa/individual/pages/indi.xhtml) you will either log in or set up an account.

If you already set up a plan online you should already have a log in.

  • If you previously registered for an Online Payment Agreement, Get Transcript, or any Identity Protection PIN (IP PIN), you should log in with the same user ID and password. You will need to confirm your identity by providing the additional information listed above if you haven't already done so.

If you're an individual taxpayer, you can view:

  • The amount you owe, updated for the current calendar day
  • Your balance details by year
  • Your payment history and any scheduled or pending payments
  • Key information from your most recent tax return
  • Details about your payment plan, if you have one

You can also:

  • Make a payment online
  • See payment plan options and request a plan via Online Payment Agreement
  • Access your tax records via Get Transcript

Please note:

  • Your balance will update no more than once every 24 hours, usually overnight.
  • Allow 1 to 3 weeks for payments to appear in the payment history.

How do I get a copy of my installment agreement from the IRS?

What a circus. People here insisting you can get info on the web site that you can't. The IRS insisting this document doesn't exist and that they don't send faxes, then faxing me exactly the document that "doesn't exist".

How do I get a copy of my installment agreement from the IRS?

If it doesn't exist then YOU did not set one up ... in the FILE tab, if you choose the payment plan, you were instructed to go online at the IRS site to set one up (new method this year ... the 9465 is no longer being sent with your tax return).  So if YOU did not do this then one has not been started   so you can do so now... use the links in the other answers and start with setting up an account.

How do I get a copy of my installment agreement from the IRS?

Incorrect. I have had this account setup for years and have used many features on the web site. My payment plan was established 2 years ago and the information described has never been accessible on that site. The IRS agent thought it was funny that this was the advice I got here.

How do I get a copy of my installment agreement from the IRS?

Ok ... so this is an OLD payment agreement and not a new one for a 2019 balance due ... would have been nice if you had mentioned that in the beginning.

Now... if the IRS web site says you can log in and check on your account then they are providing false information.   If you are on a payment plan already then you should be able to access info thru the IRS site as they clearly state in their instructions.    If they cannot help you then what can a DIY income tax program and some helpful non TT employees on this public forum possibly do for you.... you are asking the wrong folks for help with this situation.

lolololol

How do I get a copy of my installment agreement from the IRS?

Was anyone able to actually get a copy of their agreement and if so, any tips as far as what to ask for or do to make that happen quickly?

How do I get a copy of my installment agreement from the IRS?

I was ultimately able to by calling the IRS and being very persistent but patient and polite. Explain your situation and ask what they can do. The agent was able to order a copy of the installment agreement and annual statement, but those took 5 months to arrive. To get us something soon enough for our closing, the agent ended up writing a letter specifying every minute detail of my agreement and payment history, which was apparently acceptable. Good luck, hope you're able to get what you need!

Updated instructions:

Call the IRS at 1-800-829-104 between 7 AM - 7 PM local time Monday-Friday

  • Choose # for language preference, then listen for brief recorded message about refunds.
  • When prompted, choose option 2 for "personal income tax" (DO NOT choose option 1, "Refund" or you will be sent to an automated line/message and have to start over)
  • Next, press the following sequence in order - 1, 3, 2
  • You will then be asked to enter your SSN or EIN twice.  DO NOTHING - JUST WAIT until new menu options are presented.
  • Then, press 2, 1, 3  (bolded options are new/different from what is posted above)

Unless call volume is excessive (at which point you will hear a recording and be disconnected), this sequence will put you in queue for an agent to assist with providing details of an existing payment or installment arrangement.

Note: The estimated time to wait is WAY off.  I got through 3x and the actual time to speak to an agent was 2-3x the estimated wait time for each call (shortest wait 35 mins, longest 43 mins)  I would allow for an hour min to complete each call, including wait time.  As others have said, you will have to be patient and likely call multiple times until you get someone who is willing, able and knowledgeable enough to assist you.

Just thinking about how unemployed I would (rightfully) be if the caliber of work I produced approached that of the IRS.
