If you have not paid for the online edition you are using, have not filed your tax return or registered the Free edition, then you can clear your return and start over with a lower priced edition. Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the program screen while working on the 2021 online tax return. Click on Clear & Start Over.

For the Online version.  If you haven't filed, registered or paid you can just leave and abandon it.  You can try to clear it.

You can delete a tax return from within the TurboTax Windows Desktop Program on the very first screen after starting the program or go to File-Open. Click on the large square icon representing the file you wish to delete (avoid clicking the blue "Continue" button). Then just hit your delete key and answer the prompt.

OR Start the program and on the first page click the blue Find A Tax File link at the bottom of the box. Then in the list that pops up you can right click on the file and choose delete.

Or you can delete it from Windows.  The tax files end in .tax20yy and should be in your Documents folder then in a Turbo Tax subfolder.

Or just start a new return, go to FILE - NEW and ignore the wrong one.

Is it the same process when using TurboTax software CD that you purchased and installed on the desktop computer?

I wasn’t sure how to delete ( clear) the federal tax I started and start over.

You cannot clear a federal tax return when using the TurboTax desktop editions.  You just start a New Tax Return.

If the issue is the state tax return, it can be removed without deleting the federal tax return.

With the tax return open, click on the File menu at the top left of the desktop program screen.  Click on Remove State Return

To delete a tax return, start the TurboTax program but do not continue a tax return.  Click on Find a Tax File.

With the tax file window opened click on the file you want to delete.  With the file highlighted, right click on the highlighted file.  Click on Delete.
