I USED TURBO TAX PREMIER WHICH WAS INSTALLED ON MY PERRSONAL COMPUTER.
I SINCE GOT A NEW COMPUTER. HOW CAN I RECOVER MY 2021 TAX RETURN
The tax data file for 2021 will be on the old computer, usually stored in the Documents directory and in the TurboTax folder. The 2021 tax data file has a file extension of .tax2021.
Copy the tax data file from the old computer and put the data file on the C:/ drive on the new computer.
Start the 2021 TurboTax program on the new computer. Click on File menu at the top left of the desktop program screen. Click on Open Tax Return. Browse to the location where you put the 2021 tax data file.
used turbotax business 2021 & turbotax
If you used the Desktop program the only copies are on your computer.
Did you search your whole computer for all files ending in .tax2021? And check the recycle bin and your backups. Check in One Drive, etc. it should be in your Documents then in the Turbo Tax folder. Also if you have multiple Windows user accounts, log into each one and do the search for the *.tax2021 data file from within each one and checking the Recycle Bin in each one.
If you don't have the main .tax file you might have one that starts with a Tilde sign ~ like "~your name.tax2021". That file is if your computer crashes or your real file gets lost or deleted or corrupt so you can restore it.
Here's an idea. Do you still have 2021 installed? Try opening 2021 program and see if you can get your 2021 return to show up in it. Go to FILE - OPEN.
I paid for and received the download for 2022 tax return and began my return. Since then I had some work done on my computer and apparently my program is now gone. I can get into Turbo Tax but no longer have a valid license code that I can access. Can you help me restore what I have lost?
@janicegutmann You can go back to your TurboTax download account and download the 2022 software again - https://shopping.turbotax.intuit.com/unified/downloads?route=myaccounts&cgcview=downloads
I don't need a transcript. I have a new hard drive and my old Turbo Tax info is gone. All I need is a new download I can access on my computer without having to pay for it again. I don't have a CD for Turbo Tax. I need to be able to enter my 2022 tax return information.

If you purchased the download from TurboTax then just sign onto your download account and download the software again - https://shopping.turbotax.intuit.com/unified/downloads?route=myaccounts&cgcview=downloads

To access your prior year online tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the User ID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/
Start the 2022 online tax return by entering some personal information then click on Tax Home on the left side of the screen.
On the Tax Home webpage -
Scroll down to the section Your tax returns & documents. Click on the Year and Click on Download/print return (PDF) and Download .tax file
If you used the desktop CD/Download editions installed on your computer, the only copy of your tax data file and any PDF's will be on the computer where the return was created. TurboTax does not store online any returns completed using the desktop editions.
My computer crashed and I lost all my 2021 tax info. How can i recover it?

Or go to this IRS website for free federal tax return transcripts - https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript
For a fee of $43 you can get a complete federal tax return from the IRS by completing Form 4506 - http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f4506.pdf
If you used the Desktop CD/Download program then the only copies are on that computer and any backups you made. They are not saved or stored online even if you efiled with Turbo Tax. You need the pdf file or the data file ending in .tax2021.
Otherwise you can get a copy from the IRS. You can request a transcript from the IRS
I lost access to my 2021 tax return done on TurboTax. Any chance you would have a copy of the data?
