Feedback

Man! You guys make giving feedback a hard time even with the TurboTax program which does not have 'feedback' anymore.  SMH!

1. Fix the 'Are you married?' question to 'Martial Status' because the answers do not fit a yes/no format!  English fail!  The answers it gives are like, single, married, divorced, separate, etc etc.  This has been long an annoyance and am surprised it was never corrected.

2. Form 8888 typos.  For example, adding bond or split refunds then pausing to double check something messed up the smart check that flagged form 8888 mistakes.  I noticed it did not update refund totals to match as Form 8888 had the old totals not the updated amounts which required more work to ensure no further errors were flagged via smart check.  The same is true where $0.00 was not even allowed by paper check when it was already set for direct deposit.  Little things like that needs to 'auto update' results/totals than give me an error.  Similar happened a few years back and I never got savings bond as a result of these errors I think (instead got full refund).  Fortunately as a result, I was clearer on what to do next year but still the errors didn't help!

3. This year's program asked if I did replace windows in the past which is true, however, it did not ask the type, etc etc.  I had done windows before and it did not look like it met the energy saving criteria as I could not figure out if it was energy saving or not.  The window manufacturer does not even list the u-form factor info which used up too much time to answer a simple question - all I knew it had double windows - some glaze for sure.  It later asked for what was recorded on the form 5695, line 11 which was to my knowledge blank.  The windows question was misleading and should have just skipped it to the next question to ask if any energy saving credits were used before.  Oddly it listed several years more than what IRS seemed to ask for, go figure.  IRS wanted no more than 8 years I think while the program went more than that.

This has GOT to be the WORST version of turbotax,  I have been using turbotax for the past 10 years.

 specifically:

 1. no forms are provided as in the past for listing things like doctors visits, prescription drugs to come up with a total amount for entry into the program, which form could then be printed out and retained.

2. I file my last years taxes with TT, it filed in some of the last years info, but when it came to questions on the AGI, it couldn't find it my last year's tax return.

3. questions about where to post foreign pension earnings, or foreign income were difficult to locate.

4. Previous years TT allowed to go to the specific item when reviewing or correcting previous entries. this year had to step through the entire process of each item entry.

5.  No option for going to the specific form.

6.  No provision for producing a "shortcut" to put on the desktop, or a "save as" option.

7.  I don't want my info in Credit Karma, the program is to easy to place the stuff there and subscribe to

Karma.

8.  The whole program is very confusing.

9. I don't know if they will advise, as in previous years, when the return is accepted, or rejected by the IRS, but I hope so.

I totally agree with the comments in this thread.  I left TurboTax  a couple years ago because I was annoyed that the Mac version I'd purchased would not work with my IOS and they would NOT let me exchange it for a Windows version.  So I purchased H&R Block for Windows instead, which seamlessly imported my prior year return from TT.  This year I foolishly decided to try TT again.  The software completely failed to import my prior year H&R Block return (import invalid, pdf is only option, and the cheerful message that it's OK you can enter everything again),  Then it wouldn't allow entry of SSA-1099 information, and while the customer support person walked me through settings needed to get it to work (she was terrific), the changes were uncomfortable, e.g., running TT as administrator only.  There were other inconveniences and unhelpful dialogues built into the current TT.  Totallly disappointed with this product.

I'm right with the general disappointment this string is telling you about. I've done fine with TurboTax over quite a number of previous years, but this year's round had a series of small glitches of increasing difficulty in getting around. At the end of the fix-errors process, I ran into three or four which could only be fixed by reading the IRS instructions for the given line and page. In the end it was simpler not report some small items and forego their small benefits than to do a really complete return. That's not why I buy TurboTax.

P.S. It would be reassuring to hear from you that you are seeing this run of bad reviews. I'm good at forms and good at reading and following instructions. In the past TurboTax has been a good partner, with helpful page referrals, highlighting and fix-it instructions. This year was a big let-down that way, and I hope you'll have a good debrief about it.

I have been a user of TurboTax for many years.  This year's new security protocol is designed very poorly.  Turbotax has been sending me advertisement email as TurboTax for a month.  When I put in my email account for two factor authentication, no email. Same email I have been using with Intuit for years.  I tried 4 times and gave up in disgust.

When I logged into my email next day and was looking through it, I finally found where they had been sending the confirmation code emails.  Instead of sending the confirmation email as TurboTax, they sent it as Intuit.  I generally sort my email by sender, so no email from TurboTax, no pass code. After I found the previous confirmation codes, I went back to TurboTax and logged into it again, this time finding the confirmation email.   However, once I got passed this step, TurboTax insisted on reconfirming my identity, via text message this time.  Very bad design.

Once I got started, Turbotax wanted to update to the latest forms.  No problem, I am used to this.  However, after it finished updating, the button that says "Restart Turbotax" DOES NOT WORK!  I looked in Task Manager and no Turbotax process was running!  I had to restart the application manually.

This does not bode well for the reliability of this year's desktop product (2023).

Totally agree.  Connecticut has two situations common to nearly all residents that Turbotax still ignores.  One is a family leave tax that shows up on W-2s.  Every CT resident has to choose an "Other" code for this, as the turbotax list of possible misc. taxes still does not recognize this CT payroll tax.  The other is the state tax for cars.  CT taxes each year the value of your cars, yet Turbotax still says that this is not common (even though it is the norm for all CT residents).
