If you purchased Audit Defense for your tax return, call Tax Resources, Inc. at 877-829-9695, or report your notice on their web site at http://intuit.taxaudit.com/. Do not contact the IRS. Let Tax Resources contact them for you.

If you did not purchase Audit Defense:
TurboTax has a special phone number for help with IRS tax letters, which will be easier than going through regular Customer Support. At the page below, click on the blue button that says "Get Help from TurboTax Support". Then it will ask you what tax year is your letter. Then it will ask you what the letter concerns. Then it will show you the phone number during posted business hours.

Problem solved!! The Notice from the State of Maryland did not show the amount of State Taxes deducted from my pension and from my wife's Social Security and her pension. When I added in the missing amounts, it equaled the State Tax Due. My State Senators/Reps will hear about this! They must have merged data and forgot to merge the data for taxes deducted and paid in 2018. Duh!
Your actual first contacts should be with the State of MD tax department. A phone number should be showing on their letter so you can start a conversation with them next week. It's possible that they just need to see paper copies of your original 1099-R tax forms that show the state withholding ( "copies", you need to keep the originals).
In some cases, the pension providers that are "supposed" to send out separate copies electronically to the state are late in doing so, or have had some computer errors on their end such that the state didn't get the details of those withholding payments, or who the withholding was for, and the paper copies from you clear up the miscommunication.
IF the MD tax department can't clear it up that way, or becomes obstinate.....then you contact your state reps....
