I accidentally put that I did not receive the 3rd stimulus payment, but went in on my old documents and saw that I did.
if my return is offset is there typically a delay because of this?

Expect a delay. The IRS will catch the amount you put on line 30 for the recovery rebate credit by mistake, but it will take extra time. We do not know how much longer it will take.
I was hoping for something better than “expect a delay we don’t know how long”
has anyone had experience with this / has anyone experienced this ?
@Healthyliving Last year lots of people made similar mistakes on their 2020 returns with the recovery rebate credit and they waited for months for their refunds. The backlogged, understaffed IRS had to have human beings review returns with amounts on line 30 to cross check whether the person actually received the stimulus money or not. Then if they did already receive it, the refund had to be recalculated. People are still making mistakes with this--yourself, for example--and the system has to cross check and recalculate. It is too early in the filing season for us to know how long the delays will be for this mistake. We can expect a lot of confusion with the mistakes people are making with their stimulus payments and their advance child tax credit payments.
So---sorry---we cannot tell you how long the delay will be. You will just have to keep watching the IRS refund site to track the processing of your return.
Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control. TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.
You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount (line 35a of your 2021 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:
Okay, thank you !
One last thing …. Here’s what mine says currently (photo attached)
Many taxpayers show this IRS Tax Topic 152 when they inquire about their refund. It covers many answers to questions such as:
The IRS issues more than 9 out of 10 refunds in the normal time frame: less than 21 days. However, it’s possible that some tax returns may require further review and could take longer. This is definitely expected with the earned income tax credit (EITC) and the child tax credit (CTC).
