Is there a way to change the account I want to pay my taxes with after I've submitted it in TurboTax?

I paid with one of my accounts, but realized that I won't have sufficient funds in it, so the payment is going to get rejected. I transferred money to that account, but it won't get into that account for another 2 business days probably (2 days after tax day). I have an option of just leaving as is and hopefully the clearinghouse charges that account again and the payment won't get rejected because it will have sufficient funds at that point. OR I could mail a check from another account with sufficient funds so it's postmarked on Tax day. The downside to this is what if they bill my original account again.

You would need to contact the IRS for assistance with your tax payment.

How do I contact the Internal Revenue Service (IRS)?

It is too late to stop the debit from happening so you should just wait until the payment either goes thru or it is rejected then you can make a payment online directly.  The IRS can take several days to complete all of the debits lined up to be done today ... you could get lucky.   You can also talk to your bank and see if they will not reject the debit if they can see the transfer funds on the way.

Okay thanks. I’ll see what happens in the morning to see if the money has finished transferring and if the income tax has come out. If I get penalized for this, it sounds like I can make a penalty abatement claim because it was an error made in good faith. Any clue on when the notice and penalty would come?

Also, what if I made another payment online tonight from an account with sufficient funds. They won’t still try to take payment from the initial account I provided that got rejected, correct?
