>> If the TT site says the return was accepted for processing then they do have it even if the WMR? tool doesn't acknowledge it. <<
It is more comforting to me, and to prove to a 3rd party, that there is an IRS tool showing my return is with the IRS. In my case I have a lender who usually requires the full transcript as part of underwriting to prove income, and while I can provide W2s and 1099s, the fact that our official transcript says "not filed" needs to be explained for them to make an exception to their SOP -- still waiting for that decision btw.
This is an unusual tax year and allowances need to be made ... someone at the mortgage company must be aware of the IRS issues.
Did you ever get this resolved? I am having the same situation for 2020 taxes.
@tlagoy It is impossible to tell what you are trying to resolve since you posted to a thread that dates back a couple of years and that has posts from dozens of users now. What we can tell you is that the IRS is no longer showing information on the refund site for 2020 returns. They have switched over to show only 2021 refunds on the site. So it will say "no information" for 2020 when you try to track 2020. If you have been seeing information until recently on the IRS site then you know they have your return and it is being processed. The severely backlogged IRS is still working on millions of 2020 refunds.
TurboTax does not get any information from the IRS or state after you file your tax return.
To call the IRS:IRS: 800-829-1040 hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Mon-Fri
Listen to each menu before making the selection.
First choose your language. Press 1 for English.
Then do NOT choose the first choice re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.
Instead, press 2 for "personal income tax".
Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".
Then press 3 "for all other questions."
Then press 2 "for all other questions." It should then transfer you to an agent.
TAX ADVOCATE
At the following IRS website, find the USA map and click on your state, and it will give you the number of your area's IRS Taxpayer Advocate.

No. I sent in an additional copy, which was sent back to me because the signature was photocopied instead of in ink pen as was the original. I resent again with a new signature. In fact, I just got another notice this week that the return is still missing. I have no idea what's going on.
You will need to reach out directly to the IRS if you are needing assistance with your 2020 return or you are getting a "No Record of Your Filing" message. To reach out to the IRS, please follow the steps below:
IRS: 800-829-1040 (7AM-7 PM local time) Monday-Friday
When calling the IRS do not choose the first choice re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.
This is not an issue regarding a refund - Turbo Tax shows my filing status is accepted, but the IRS does not show the return as being filed. It doesn't appear from this thread that there is any help available from either TurboTax or the IRS...I don't understand how this can happen much less how to fix it. And even resubmitting a paper return apparently isn't the answer. I would not have expected this after getting confirmation.
Where are you looking to see if the IRS has a record of your 2020 return? Did you look for a transcript?
You can get a free transcript from the IRS:
https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript
Or did you look in your IRS account?

After many months of trying to reach someone I attempted to make an appointment and was told by the person on the phone, they could not make an appointment but he agreed to take a quick look at my account. Two hours later, we had it worked out. What happened for me, was that my 2019 taxes took so long, due to backlogs, that I made the mistake of submitting a copy of the return on paper and that placed a fraud alert and froze everything. They had to clear that so that my 2019 could be processed. As far as 2020, it's still waiting for the backlog, but at least now it sounds like i'll be able to file 2021 electronically by using 0 as the AGI.
The key to success, make sure your taxes are received by the IRS and then never submit a duplicate.
@ToddL99 Thank you. However, the return was not rejected...just not received despite TurboTax status of "accepted".
Every now and then the IRS accepts a return but then "loses it in the system" for no known reason ... so if you get an IRS letter asking for a signed copy simply comply asap.
Thanks for all the tips - I did get through to the IRS. I talked with a nice lady (who was very helpful - she found the return which was in a holding pattern for some unknown reason possibly having to do with the timing of a payment vs the return. In any case, she is getting it "unstuck" and hopefully in the next few weeks I will have it resolved. Ok...breathing again.
@dylanglockler I think something similar happened to me - I had an issue with my 2019 so I am thinking that prevented them from processing the 2020 return. Let's get this sorted out and never go here again, ugh!
I'm still having the same issue. I spoke with an IRS agent and they said they have 2020 return but have not been processed. Plus, I've been trying to refinance my home and I can not because they need the last two tax returns. :(
@HeatherPLO Thanks Heather - your information was very helpful. It is too bad though that we have to "trick" the IRS into letting us through to a real person. Appreciate your help!
